The second command fetches existing review comments to avoid duplication.
The third command fetches the resolution status and up to 100 replies per review thread via GraphQL. Read author replies on resolved threads carefully — the author may have already addressed the concern. If a thread's inner comments.pageInfo.hasNextPage is true, the last replies are truncated — treat such threads conservatively (assume the author may have already replied).
If pageInfo.hasNextPage is true, paginate using after: "{endCursor}" until all threads are fetched. PRs with >50 threads silently lose overflow without pagination.

Determine the current GitHub user, then check for prior reviews. Run these two commands sequentially — the second depends on the output of the first:
gh api user --jq .login and capture the output as the current user's login. If this call fails, warn the user that GitHub authentication may be required and stop.gh pr view "$ARGUMENTS" --json reviews --jq '.reviews[]' and filter the results to entries where .author.login matches the captured login. Extract {state, submittedAt, commit: .commit.oid} from any matches. Discard any entries where .commit is null or .commit.oid is null — these are reviews submitted before any commit existed or on force-pushed branches where the original commit is gone. From the remaining entries, sort by submittedAt descending and take the first entry. Store its commit value as $LAST_REVIEW_SHA. Validate that $LAST_REVIEW_SHA matches ^[0-9a-f]{40}$ — if it does not, warn and fall back to full review (do not enter self-re-review mode).If no matching reviews are found, $LAST_REVIEW_SHA is unset — this is not a self-re-review; proceed with standard full review.
If a prior review by the current user exists, this is a self-re-review. Switch to re-review mode (see below). Otherwise, proceed with standard full review.
Resolve $BASE from the baseRefName field of the Step 1 PR data. Validate that $BASE matches ^[a-zA-Z0-9/_.\-]+$ — if it does not, report "Invalid base branch ref: $BASE" and stop.
Resolve $HEAD_SHA from the headRefOid field of the Step 1 PR data (available via gh pr view "$ARGUMENTS" --json headRefOid -q .headRefOid). If headRefOid is unavailable, fall back to git rev-parse HEAD and log a warning: "headRefOid not available — using local HEAD; results may differ from remote." Validate that $HEAD_SHA matches ^[0-9a-f]{40}$ — if it does not, report "Invalid HEAD SHA: $HEAD_SHA" and stop. Use $BASE and $HEAD_SHA in all subsequent diff and log commands.
When re-reviewing a PR you have previously reviewed, the scope is deliberately narrow:
git log "$LAST_REVIEW_SHA".."$HEAD_SHA"). Only use the validated value of $LAST_REVIEW_SHA here — if validation failed earlier, you are not in self-re-review mode and this step does not apply. This duplicates the logic in includes/specialist-context.md "Determine base branch" intentionally — the pipeline orchestrator must resolve $BASE before dispatching specialists. Specialists also resolve $BASE independently so they work standalone. Step 1 items 1–5 here must match specialist-context.md items 1–5. Changes to any of these locations must be mirrored in the others; see also agents/review-synthesiser.md Context Gathering which has a parallel (but prompt-extracted) version.

Diff syntax: When $EMPTY_TREE_MODE is true, the empty tree SHA has no commit history and three-dot diff (...) cannot compute a merge base. Use two-arg git diff $BASE $HEAD_SHA instead of git diff "$BASE"..."$HEAD_SHA" for ALL diff commands throughout the pipeline. When $EMPTY_TREE_MODE is false, continue using three-dot syntax as normal.
Path scope: <pathspec> line is present in $ARGUMENTS, extract the pathspec after the colon and store as $PATH_SCOPE. If not present, leave $PATH_SCOPE empty. Validate that $PATH_SCOPE matches ^[a-zA-Z0-9/_.\-*]+$ — if it does not, report "Invalid path scope: $PATH_SCOPE" and stop. Additionally, if $PATH_SCOPE contains .. as a substring, report "Invalid path scope (directory traversal): $PATH_SCOPE" and stop. When $PATH_SCOPE is set, append -- "$PATH_SCOPE" after all flags in every git diff command throughout the pipeline (use the diff syntax determined by $EMPTY_TREE_MODE). The quotes prevent shell glob expansion of * before git receives the pathspec. This restricts the review to the specified subdirectory.2.1. Run git rev-parse HEAD and store as $HEAD_SHA. Validate that $HEAD_SHA matches ^[0-9a-f]{40}$ — if it does not, report "Invalid HEAD SHA: $HEAD_SHA" and stop. All subsequent diff commands use $HEAD_SHA instead of HEAD to pin the review to a single commit and avoid race conditions if new commits land during the review.
2.2. Run git diff --name-only (append -- "$PATH_SCOPE" if set) and store as $CHANGED_FILES. Use the diff syntax determined by $EMPTY_TREE_MODE (two-arg when true, three-dot when false). If empty, report "No changes found against $BASE" and stop.
2.3. Run git diff --shortstat (append -- "$PATH_SCOPE" if set) using the same diff syntax and count:

Handling existing comments — check resolution status first:
Resolved threads are hidden on the PR conversation page. Replying to a resolved thread will not make it visible again, so replies to resolved threads will likely be ignored by the author.

You are NOT authorised to drop a finding because it is low-confidence, low-severity, jbinspect-only, stylistic, redundant-looking, "noise", "not worth raising", "borderline", or "the user can triage it later". Surfacing is the reviewer's job; triage is the author's. The synthesiser already applied the only legitimate filter (its
Dismissed Findingssection).The ONLY legal reasons to omit a finding from the outgoing comments are:
dedup-with-#N— merged into another comment. The merged comment body MUST cite both source domains by name (e.g. "Flagged by both correctness and efficiency …"). Silent merges are forbidden.dismissed-by-synthesiser— listed verbatim in the synthesiser'sDismissed Findingssection. You may not invent your own dismissals.Anything else — "I judged this trivial", "overlaps loosely with comment N", "low signal" — is a pipeline violation. Re-add the finding before continuing.

Comment API conventions: Use --input - with a heredoc for the body to avoid shell quoting issues — comment bodies routinely contain single quotes, backticks, and other shell metacharacters from code snippets. The --input flag sends stdin as the body field. The heredoc uses a collision-resistant delimiter (EOF_COMMENT_BODY) to avoid premature termination if the comment body contains a common word like BODY on its own line. Use -F (not -f) for integer parameters (line, in_reply_to).
