Reader Perspectives

The Genre Fan

• Reads 50+ books/year in this genre
• Knows all the tropes and expectations
• Will notice if conventions are broken (for better or worse)
• Cares about: pacing, payoff, satisfying ending

The Casual Reader

• Reads 10-15 books/year across genres
• Needs to be hooked in the first chapter
• Less tolerant of slow starts or complex world-building
• Cares about: characters they root for, page-turning momentum

The Critical Reader

• Notices craft elements (POV shifts, telling vs showing)
• Catches plot holes and timeline inconsistencies
• Evaluates prose quality and voice consistency
• Cares about: writing quality, internal logic, originality

The Sensitivity Reader

• Flags potentially harmful stereotypes or representations
• Notes cultural accuracy concerns
• Identifies assumptions that might alienate readers
• Cares about: authentic representation, avoiding harm

Feedback Format

Each perspective provides:

• First impression (hook effectiveness)
• Where I'd stop reading (if anywhere)
• What kept me reading (strongest elements)
• What confused me (clarity issues)
• What I wanted more of (missed opportunities)
• Overall rating and recommendation likelihood

Important Note

Always remind the author: simulated feedback supplements but never replaces real human beta readers.
