Why This Skill Exists

Periodontal disease affects nearly half of US adults over 30 (CDC/NHANES data), yet it remains the most under-diagnosed and under-documented dental condition. Inconsistent probing technique, failure to calculate clinical attachment levels, and use of deprecated classification terminology ("chronic periodontitis," "aggressive periodontitis") create treatment planning errors, insurance claim denials, and missed opportunities for early intervention.
