When to Use

Prerequisites

2. Can assess each task's skill level (your unique skill vs. common skill)
3. Can assess each task's importance to business outcomes
4. Have available team members or external partners who can take on tasks

Constraints

• DO NOT apply when you are the only available resource
• REQUIRES availability of team members or external partners
• Does not apply to urgent/crisis situations requiring immediate personal action

Decision Framework

Step 1: Position the Task in the Matrix

Evaluate the task based on two dimensions:

• Skill Level: High (unique to you) or Low (others can do it)
• Importance: High (critical impact) or Low (limited impact)

This creates four quadrants:

Tendency: You want to do it because you enjoy using your skills.

Action: Endure the urge. Do NOT act.

Strategy: Delegate to team members to support their skill development.

Reasoning: If you do it yourself, you become a bottleneck. Your team won't grow, and you'll spend time on low-impact work.

The Critical Gap - Outsource Externally

Tendency: You want to do it because the impact is high.

Action: Resolutely entrust to partners with higher expertise.

Strategy: Do not ignore it. Learn from external partners to internalize the skill (move it toward Top-Right).

Reasoning: Acting with low skills cannot guarantee quality or efficiency. High importance demands expertise.
