Use this skill when you need to:
DO NOT use this skill for full contractor agreements or legal contracts, job descriptions for employees, or project management plans. This is for the operational brief that tells a contractor exactly what you need.
A CONTRACTOR BRIEF IS THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT DOCUMENT IN A FREELANCE ENGAGEMENT — 80% OF CONTRACTOR DISPUTES TRACE BACK TO UNCLEAR SCOPE, VAGUE DELIVERABLES, OR UNSPOKEN EXPECTATIONS.
Gather everything the contractor needs to know.
| Input | What to Ask | Default |
|---|---|---|
| Project name | "What is this project or engagement called?" | No default |
| Contractor role | "What will the contractor do? (design, writing, development, marketing, etc.)" | No default |
| Deliverables | "What specific outputs do you expect?" | No default |
| Timeline | "When do you need it done?" | No default |
| Budget | "What is your budget? (fixed project, hourly, retainer)" | No default |
| Context | "What background info does the contractor need about your business?" | No default |
| References | "Any examples of what 'good' looks like?" | None |
Before drafting, answer these three questions:
GATE: Confirm requirements are complete before drafting the brief.
Create the comprehensive contractor brief.
