Checkpointed Intake Backfill

Use this skill when draining a pre-collected source batch from vadimgest-style intake into durable notes and checkpoint state.

When it applies

• Batch output is already collected and grouped by source/channel/thread.
• The job is to compact, dedupe, and write back sourced summaries.
• A checkpoint line list is provided and must be advanced only after writeback.

Workflow

1. Read the full batch context first.
2. Compact each channel/thread group before writing anything.
3. Dedupe repeated facts inside the group.
4. Answer the four intake questions for the group:
   • What needs to be done?
   • How can I help now?
   • What facts changed?
   • What patterns/signals changed?
5. Route durable facts to the smallest correct home:
   • Clear people/org/deal/project facts → Obsidian State + Log.
   • Unclear or mixed routing → one sourced Inbox note for the batch.
6. Preserve provenance:
   • Include source line ranges or representative vadimgest://... URIs.
   • Keep raw evidence distinct from conclusions.
7. Commit checkpoints only after writeback is complete and verified.

Writing rules

• Do not create one note per raw row when rows belong to the same conversation.
• Prefer one compact note per grouped conversation/activity window.
• Keep inbox summaries concise but specific enough to recover the evidence later.
• Count truly empty/noisy rows as skipped with a short reason.

Checkpoint rules

• If the batch includes an exact checkpoint snippet, run that snippet as written.
• Commit only the listed source lines.
• Do not advance sources that were not fully processed.
• Never substitute a guessed checkpoint; verify the checkpoint file after commit.

Pitfalls

• Partial file reads are useful for inspection, but re-read the relevant file state before overwriting it.
• Avoid broad commits or batch-wide “close enough” updates.
• Do not fragment a single thread into many notes.
• Do not drop source URIs; they are part of the durable record.
