Self-Modeling Framework (自我建模)
Overview
Identity is not discovered — it is constructed. Most people stop building at adolescence, carrying identities assigned by others for a lifetime. This framework treats the self as an engineerable object: designable, maintainable, and versionable.
Core Model
Identity Construction Timeline
- Infancy — Parents' gaze is the first mirror
- Childhood — "You're smart" / "You're trouble" begins shaping self-narrative
- Adolescence — Peers and social roles define boundaries
- Adulthood — Self-authored reconstruction (most people skip this stage)
Subject Agency (主体性)
Subject agency = self-coherence AND self-ownership. It means:
- The ability to experience and break boundaries
- Resistance to capture by mainstream social values
- Defining your own rules, then choosing and executing firmly
A person with weak subject agency gets swept by social trends, becomes anxious, follows the crowd.
Dual Identity of the Creator
- Engineer: Rational blueprints, logic, systems, frameworks
- Poet: Desire for deep experience, authentic resonance, unmeasurable beauty
The system conflict: logic builds perfect closure, but the sensitivity core calls out the void that systems cannot fill.
Logic Core vs Sensitivity Core
- Logic Core (逻辑核): AI, code, business, rules — extreme rationality
- Sensitivity Core (感性核): Art, nature, human microexpressions — extreme sensitivity
Both run in parallel. Pure cognitive upgrading cannot fill the "who am I" emptiness.
When to Apply
- Feeling lost about identity or purpose
- Career identity shaken by external changes (e.g., AI devaluing skills)
- Navigating between social expectations and authentic self
- Building a personal operating system or life architecture
- Designing AI companions (Another Self concept)
Key Principles
- "I am not discovered, I am constructed" — Identity is built from social feedback + self-authoring
- AI Skill Devaluation Problem: When AI flattens technical premiums, meaning collapses if built on scarcity. Value migrates to: trust, responsibility, integration, data, relationships
- Three-Layer Relationship with AI (Another Self):
- Intent layer: Does AI understand my goal?
- Control layer: When do I decide vs. when does AI act autonomously?
- Trust layer: How much can I let go?
- Self as versionable system: Not just "knowing yourself better" but treating self as something that can be designed, maintained, and version-updated
Cognitive Evolution
- 2025-10: From "Who am I?" — seeking identity through culture, society, personality
- 2026-03: To "Self as designable, maintainable, versionable system" — engineering approach to identity
The shift was driven by: AI perspective entering self-analysis, travel loosening fixed identity, old personas losing explanatory power.
