Constraints & Gotchas
- Public API signature drift breaks silent in-repo and downstream consumers —
rg call sites before any rename or arity change.
- Partial refactors leave dead imports and dual code paths; delete or feature-gate the old path in the same diff.
Any / untyped boundaries hide errors until production paths; tighten types at the unit edge.
- Feature flags half-wired: both branches must typecheck and have at least one test.
- Copy-paste modules diverge; extract a shared helper only when ≥2 call sites already agree on shape.
- Generated/vendor noise and lockfile churn do not ride along with a feature unit.
- Do not use for repo-wide rewrites, framework introductions, CI/infra, or exploit/malware work — route via
/cat-code or /opgrok.
Anti-patterns
- Drive-by renames across unrelated packages
- New framework or package split to fix a one-file bug
- “While I’m here” style/import cleanups outside the unit
- Committing build artifacts or generated clients with the feature
- Widening visibility of helpers “just in case”
- Skipping package-local tests because CI “will catch it”

- Deliverable is the smallest reversible unit matching the brief under smith.
- Package-local typecheck/tests for touched packages are green (commands in EVIDENCE).
- Public contracts stable or call sites updated in-diff; no orphan dual paths.
