Constraints & Gotchas
- Authn ≠ authz: a valid session still needs per-object ownership/scope checks.
- IDOR hides in “get by id” handlers that skip tenant/user binding after auth middleware.
- Secret scanners miss
.env.local, secrets.yaml, base64-in-config, and CI variable dumps in logs.
- Logging Authorization headers, tokens, or PII creates a second breach surface.
- CVE noise: unreachable transitive deps do not justify panic major bumps; prove call-graph reachability.
- Security headers (CSP/HSTS) do not fix SQLi/XSS in handlers — fix the sink.
- “Fail open” feature flags on authz are production incidents waiting to happen.
