Speed Reading for Summaries
Strategic Reading (Not Speed Reading)
True speed reading (as marketed) largely doesn't work - comprehension drops dramatically at very high speeds. What DOES work is strategic reading: spending your time on the most valuable parts of a book.
The SQ3R Method
S - Survey (5-10 minutes):
Before reading, scan the entire book:
- Read the table of contents carefully
- Read the introduction and conclusion
- Scan chapter headings and subheadings
- Look at graphs, charts, and pull quotes
- Read the first and last paragraph of each chapter
