- Deloads are mandatory, not optional — chronic training without deloads leads to accumulated fatigue masking fitness and eventual injury.
- RPE (Rate of Perceived Exertion) scale 1–10: working sets should be RPE 7–9 (1–3 reps in reserve); RPE 10 (true failure) should be rare.
Common Mistakes
- Random exercise selection — changing exercises every session prevents motor pattern consolidation and makes progressive overload impossible to track.
- Training to failure every set — failure training increases injury risk and excessive fatigue without proportional hypertrophy benefit vs. stopping 1–2 reps short.
- Neglecting posterior chain — overemphasis on pressing movements without equal pulling volume creates muscular imbalance and shoulder pathology risk.
