Authentication Edge Cases

Edge cases need bespoke authentication. Document provenance + ask grader for special handling.

Error cards

Manufacturer errors (color shift, missing ink, wrong text):

1. Some commands huge premium (1989 Fleer Billy Ripken 'FF' error: $5-50K depending on grade)
2. Most commands minimal premium (most errors stay common)
3. Grader will authenticate but may apply 'error' label

Prototype releases

Pre-release prototypes (test prints, employee samples):

1. PSA/SGC may authenticate as prototype
2. Often unique or extremely scarce
3. Pricing: auction-discovery only
4. Required: provenance from manufacturer or insider

Mixed authentication

Autograph on card with sticker:

• Card authenticated by PSA, BGS, SGC, CGC
• Sticker authenticated by PSA/DNA, JSA
• Bundle into one slab when possible (PSA dual-grade, BGS dual-grade)
