Crack and Resubmit Mechanics
Use a proper crack tool (PSA cracker, BGS slab breaker). Practice on junk first. Never touch surface bare.
PSA crack technique
- Place slab on flat surface, label up
- Insert PSA cracker tool at corner notch
- Apply firm even pressure — slab pops at the seam
- Card slides out in original penny sleeve
- Inspect card under loupe before resubmission
BGS crack technique
- BGS slabs use snap-fit closure
- Apply pressure at corner notches
- Slab opens like a clamshell
- Card lifts out of inner foam
- Inspect card before re-sleeving
Damage avoidance
- Wear gloves (cotton or nitrile)
- Work on padded surface (towel)
- Crack at corner notch (designed weakness)
- Avoid bending or twisting holder
- Never use force tools (pliers, hammer)
- Take photos before and after for documentation
