Panini Prizm Print Defects

Prizm print runs ship with consistent factory defects. Knowing the pattern saves submission fees on doomed candidates.

Known defect families

1. Centering: ~60% of Prizm base off 55/45 from factory
2. Print snow in dark fields (especially black/red backgrounds)
3. Surface scratches on the chromium substrate
4. Print lines on Silver, Mojo, and Hyper parallels
5. Edge chipping on Black Finite parallels (chronic)

Parallel hierarchy

Base → Silver → Hyper → Mojo → Red → Blue Cracked Ice → Gold (/10) → Black (/1). Resale premium escalates but so does grade difficulty — Black /1 in PSA 10 is extraordinarily rare.

Grade economics

Prizm Silver in PSA 10 typically sells 4-6× raw. Submit only with:

• Centering 55/45 or better both axes
• Surface clean at 30° light
• Sharp corners under 10×
• Comp data shows live demand (not just listing prices)
