PSA Slab Label Eras
PSA has 9 label generations. Some eras command collector premium (Old Holder era, MK qualifier eras). Identify by font, color, and cert format.
Label generations summary
- Old Holder (1991-1998) — green label, blocky font — collector premium
- 1st Generation (1998-2000) — green label, refined font
- 2nd Generation (2000-2002)
- 3rd Generation (2002-2008)
- 4th Generation (2008-2017)
- 5th Generation (2017-2021)
- 6th Generation (2021-2024) — current as of 2026
- Specialty labels: Light Holder, Reholder, World Champ, etc.
Old Holder premium
Cards in Old Holder slabs (pre-1998) command 10-30% premium on vintage. The aesthetic is collector-favored. PSA does NOT crack and re-issue Old Holders unless damaged.
Identifying a slab generation
Look at:
- Label color (green = old, white/holographic = newer)
- Font (blocky pre-2000, refined later)
- Cert number format (8 digits older, 10 digits newer)
- Holographic security features (post-2008)
