Reprinted vs Original
Reprints are legitimate (manufacturer-issued) recreations of older cards. They're NOT counterfeits but trade at 5-20% of originals.
Common reprints
- 1996 Topps Reprint 1952 set (Bowman Heritage)
- Topps Heritage annual reprint series
- Bowman Heritage reissues
- Pokemon Card 25th Anniversary reprints
- Magic the Gathering Foreign Black Border (FBB) reprints
Identification
Reprints carry:
- 'Reprint', 'Reproduction', or 'Heritage' text on back
- Modern manufacturer logo/date
- Modern cardstock (whiter, thinner than original)
- Modern printing quality (cleaner registration, no era defects)
- Different dimensions in some cases
Pricing
Reprints typically trade at 5-20% of originals at the same grade. A 1996 Topps Reprint 1952 Mantle in PSA 10 sells $30-80; the original 1952 Topps Mantle PSA 10 sold $12.6M.
