Editorial Newsletter Design
Editorial newsletters: long-form essay, curated links, editorial voice. Different from marketing newsletters. Subscribers want depth.
Editorial newsletter structure
- Header / brand identity — newsletter name + edition number
- Editor's letter — short personal essay (300-500 words)
- Featured article — link to deep dive on the site
- Curated links — 3-5 external articles worth reading
- Subscriber-only content — exclusive insight or tool
- Footer — about, archive, unsubscribe
Email design considerations
- Single-column layout (mobile-first)
- 600px max width
- Inline CSS (no external stylesheets)
- Web-safe fallback fonts
- Alt text on all images
- Plain-text version for accessibility
- Unsubscribe link prominent
Editorial voice in email
Subject line: not clickbait, not generic. State the actual value.
- 'Why your PSA 10 is worth 12× your PSA 9' (specific)
- NOT: 'You won't BELIEVE this card pricing trick!'
Letter opening: direct address to reader, conversational but not casual.
- 'This week I've been thinking about...'
- 'A reader asked me last week: ...'
Where this fits in the X3 empire
Used for CardPrepAI weekly editorial newsletter (planned).
