EQ and De-Essing

EQ shapes voice: high-pass to remove rumble, low-pass to remove harsh highs, mid-cut for muddiness, boost for presence.

Standard voice EQ curve

1. High-pass filter at 80-100 Hz (remove rumble)
2. Low-cut at 200-400 Hz (remove muddiness)
3. Slight boost at 2-5 kHz (presence/clarity)
4. Slight cut at 6-8 kHz (harshness)
5. High-pass at 12 kHz (de-emphasize hiss)

Adjust per voice. Each speaker is different.

De-essing technique

De-esser reduces sibilance ('S' sounds):

1. Identify problem frequency (5-9 kHz)
2. Apply de-esser plugin with threshold
3. Cut when sibilance triggers threshold
4. Listen for unnatural lispiness — too much de-essing creates lisp
