Use a dedicated read-only audit role (SecurityAudit/roles/iam.securityReviewer) and confirm no write actions appear in CloudTrail/audit logs for that principal.
Compliance pack not selected:prowler aws without --compliance cis_1.5_aws runs only the default checks, so the CIS/PCI score you report is incomplete. Always pass the explicit framework and confirm in the run header.
Native services not enabled underneath: Security Hub needs AWS Config, Defender needs auto-provisioning, SCC needs asset discovery. If these are off, drift is simply never detected (not flagged as failing).
Auto-remediation in report-only: AWS Config remediation with Automatic:false, or Azure policy in DoNotEnforce, logs drift but never fixes it. Verify Automatic:true / enforcementMode: Default.
Dedup ignores resource-ID format differences: the same misconfig from Prowler vs ScoutSuite has different IDs, producing duplicate alerts and fatigue.

Pitfalls: Running CSPM tools with overly broad permissions creates a high-value target. Use dedicated service accounts with read-only permissions and rotate credentials regularly. Different CSPM tools may report the same misconfiguration differently, so deduplication logic must account for varying resource ID formats and finding titles across tools.
