Research Planning
Create and manage structured markdown plan documents directly in the Obsidian vault. Plans are automatically indexed into the RAG system so you can reference and search them alongside your research papers.
Two Types of Plans
Internal Plans (plan_type="internal")
Stored in thoth/_thoth/plans/ — your own working research strategy. Use these to:
- Map out a multi-step research approach before starting
- Track which questions remain open
- Note decisions and why you made them
- Draft a plan the user can review and edit
User Plans (plan_type="user")
Stored in thoth/plans/ — formalized deliverables for the user. Use these when:
- The user asks "can you make me a research plan for X"
- You want to present a structured roadmap the user can follow independently
- You're summarizing a completed research arc into a reusable plan
