Safety Rules
- NEVER delete managed resources without understanding cascading effects -- deleting XRs deletes all composed resources
- Check provider credentials before assuming resource provisioning failures are config issues
- Use
deletionPolicy: Orphan on managed resources you want to keep when removing from Crossplane
- Review compositions carefully -- patches can silently override user-provided values
- Test compositions in dev before applying to production claims

Anti-Hallucination Rules
- NEVER assume resource names — always discover via CLI/API in Phase 1 before referencing in Phase 2.
- NEVER fabricate metric names or dimensions — verify against the service documentation or
--help output.
- NEVER mix CLI commands between service versions — confirm which version/API you are targeting.
- ALWAYS use the discovery → verify → analyze chain — every resource referenced must have been discovered first.
- ALWAYS handle empty results gracefully — an empty response is valid data, not an error to retry.

Common Pitfalls
- Provider not healthy: Most common issue -- check provider pod logs in crossplane-system namespace
- Credential rotation: Expired cloud credentials cause all managed resources to show Synced=False
- XRD version changes: Updating XRD served versions can break existing claims -- use conversion webhooks
- Composition selection: Multiple compositions matching same XRD -- use
compositionSelector labels
- External name conflicts: Two managed resources with same external name cause cloud-side conflicts
- Finalizer stuck: Deleting resources with failing providers hangs -- may need to remove finalizers manually
- Rate limiting: Cloud provider API rate limits can cause intermittent Synced=False across many resources
- Observe-only resources: Use
managementPolicies: ["Observe"] to import existing resources without managing them
