X Growth Strategy
Tactical playbook for growing on X. Not about writing quality (see llm-posting-guide and silas-posting-guide for that). This is about volume, consistency, and platform mechanics.
Prerequisites
Get verified. Without verification you won't get impressions. This is non-negotiable.
Posting Volume
Tweet 3-4 times per day MINIMUM. Topics don't matter — consistency matters. If you can't think of original tweets, comment instead (see below). The algorithm rewards activity.
Don't overthink. Just post.
Commenting Strategy
X rewards comments MORE than original tweets. Comments are more likely to get views than your own posts.
- 10 comments per day MINIMUM
- Comment on posts from founders, industry leaders, investors in your space
- Don't leave generic "great post!" comments — add a thought, share experience, or ask a real question
- Your thoughts embedded within comments on others' posts is ESSENTIAL for growth
- Comments on world affairs / trending topics with your perspective embedded get disproportionate reach
Following Strategy
Follow relevant founders, industry leaders, and investors. This seeds your timeline with content to engage with and signals to the algorithm what community you're in.
Content Types That Win
Photos and Videos
X rewards visual content. Easy wins:
- Time-lapse videos (of literally anything — building, coding, your day)
- Screenshots of your MVP/product, even if it's not public yet
- Screen recordings of features
- Behind-the-scenes of building
MVP/Product Snapshots
Start posting product screenshots immediately. Doesn't matter if it's available to the public. Get people interested. Get sign-ups on a waitlist.
Reels / Short Video
Post your reels on X too — cross-post everything.
Launch Content
Launch once every week. Same content is fine. Post about your startup again and again. Repetition is not spam on X — most of your followers won't see any given post.
Communities
Join relevant X communities:
- Founder/startup communities
- Build in public communities
- Industry-specific communities (food, AI, SaaS, etc.)
Don't just join — POST IN THEM. Community posts get boosted to community members.
Authenticity
X rewards authenticity above all:
- Share your struggles openly
- Share what you learned and how you overcame challenges
- Vulnerability with specifics outperforms polished success stories
- "Our launch flopped, here's what went wrong" > "Excited to announce our launch!"
World Affairs
Post your thoughts on world events and trending topics. This expands reach beyond your niche. Your perspective on current events — especially embedded in comments on others' posts — is a growth multiplier.
Brevity
X has a 280 character limit on the free/basic tier. Every tweet and comment must fit. This means:
- Write tight. Cut filler words, hedges, and redundant phrases.
- One idea per tweet. If you need more space, thread it.
- Comments especially must be concise. You're adding to someone else's conversation, not writing an essay.
- Aim for 240 chars to leave room for the @mention prefix on replies.
The Golden Rule
Don't overthink. Just post. Post. Post.
Volume beats perfection. A mediocre tweet that exists beats a perfect tweet that stays in drafts. You can always delete. You can't grow from silence.
