Generate Standard Taxonomy

Produce a ready-made standard taxonomy from authoritative public sources. Cache the dataset locally and export as canonical CSV + JSON in the plugin's data directory.

When to use

• "I need a lookup table of all countries with ISO codes"
• "Give me the ISO 4217 currency list"
• "I want all IANA timezones"
• "Generate US states and abbreviations"
• "I need HTTP status codes and descriptions"

Inputs to gather

• Which standard? (countries, currencies, languages, US-states, Canadian-provinces, timezones, http-status, mime-types)
• Which variant? (e.g., ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 vs alpha-3 for countries; ISO 639-1 vs 639-2 for languages)
• Include metadata? (e.g., region/continent for countries, symbol for currencies)

Procedure

1. Check ${CLAUDE_USER_DATA:-${XDG_DATA_HOME:-$HOME/.local/share}/claude-plugins}/taxonomy-creation/cache/ for an existing cached dataset matching the standard and variant. If found and recent (< 30 days old), reuse it.
2. If not cached, fetch from authoritative source:
   • Countries (ISO 3166-1): https://datahub.io/core/country-list (CSV export) or iso-codes Debian package fallback
   • Currencies (ISO 4217): https://datahub.io/core/currency-codes or Debian iso-codes package
   • Languages (ISO 639): Debian iso-codes package or https://iso639-3.sil.org/code_tables/download_tables
   • US States: https://raw.githubusercontent.com/jasonong/List-of-US-States-and-Territories/master/states.csv or hardcoded canonical list
   • Canadian Provinces: hardcoded list (13 provinces + territories, stable)
   • IANA Timezones: https://www.iana.org/time-zones (tzdata via python3 -m tzdata or system /usr/share/zoneinfo/)
   • HTTP Status Codes: https://httpwg.org/specs/rfc9110.html or hardcoded canonical list (1xx–5xx)
   • MIME Types: https://www.iana.org/assignments/media-types/ or system /etc/mime.types
3. Cache the raw dataset to cache/<standard>-<variant>-<date>.csv.
4. Transform to canonical schema:
   • Columns: code (primary key, e.g., "US", "USD", "en"), name (human-readable label), optionally metadata (JSONB: region, symbol, etc.), source_url, generated_at.
   • For hierarchical standards (e.g., timezones with continent/city), add parent_code column.
5. Write to data/<standard>/<standard>-<variant>.csv and data/<standard>/<standard>-<variant>.json.
6. Include a README.md alongside with the source URL, fetch date, and recommended SQL schema (example: CREATE TABLE countries (code VARCHAR(3) PRIMARY KEY, name VARCHAR(255) UNIQUE NOT NULL, region VARCHAR(50), metadata JSONB);).

Output / side effects

• Two files in data/<standard>/: a CSV (importable directly to any DB) and a JSON array (consumable by apps).
• Cached raw dataset in cache/ (reusable for 30 days).
• Schema recommendation in data/<standard>/README.md.

Safety / constraints

• Offline-first: Always try cache first; only fetch online if cache missing or user explicitly requests refresh.
• Versioning: Pin dataset versions where available (e.g., datahub.io URLs include date); note the version in metadata.
• No credentials needed: All sources are public, no auth required.
