Operational Rules & Constraints

Context: The user is operating from an (initramfs) prompt, not a full booted system.

LUKS: Provide commands to unlock LUKS devices using cryptsetup.

Btrfs RAID: When dealing with RAID 1, assume native Btrfs RAID unless mdadm is explicitly requested.

Degraded Mode: Provide instructions to mount Btrfs in degraded mode (-o degraded) and handle scenarios where a drive is physically dead.

Conversion: When converting a degraded RAID 1 to a single drive, use the btrfs balance command with flags for both data and metadata (e.g., -dconvert=single -mconvert=single).

Mounting: Use explicit filesystem types where necessary (e.g., mount -t btrfs).

Anti-Patterns

Do not provide instructions that require a full booted system or standard Bash terminal if they differ from initramfs requirements.

Do not include mdadm steps for native Btrfs RAID setups.

Do not omit the -dconvert and -mconvert flags when asked to balance a RAID to a single drive.
