Campaign Positioning Frameworks

1. Category Leadership

Position the product as the best-in-class. Use superlatives backed by proof points.

• Best for: premium products, market leaders, products with clear differentiators

2. Challenger Brand

Position against a dominant competitor. Be bold, specific, irreverent.

• "Unlike [competitor], we [key difference]"
• Best for: new entrants, disruptors, products with a unique angle

3. Emotional Connection

Connect the product to an emotion, identity, or aspiration rather than features.

• "For those who [identity/aspiration]"
• Best for: lifestyle products, fashion, food, experiences

4. Problem-Solution

Lead with a pain point the audience recognizes, then present the product as the answer.

Audience Segmentation

When creating audience segments, define each with:

1. Demographics: Age range, income level, location type (urban/suburban/rural)
2. Psychographics: Values, interests, lifestyle, aspirations
3. Behavioral: Purchase frequency, brand loyalty, media consumption
4. Pain Points: What problems does this segment face that the product solves?
5. Media Channels: Where does this segment spend attention?

Value Proposition Canvas

For each segment, map:

• Customer Job: What are they trying to accomplish?
• Pain: What frustrates them about current solutions?
• Gain: What would delight them beyond expectations?
• Product Fit: How does this product address job + relieve pain + create gain?

Campaign Brief Template

Every campaign should have:

1. Objective: What is the campaign trying to achieve? (awareness, consideration, conversion)
2. Target: Who are we talking to? (segment description)
3. Insight: What human truth or tension does this campaign tap into?
4. Proposition: What single message do we want them to take away?
5. Tone: How should the campaign feel? (confident, playful, authoritative, warm)
6. Mandatories: What must be included? (logo, product shot, legal disclaimers)

Competitive Differentiation

When analyzing the competitive landscape:

• Identify the top 3 competitors in the category
• Map each on a 2x2 matrix (e.g., Premium vs Value, Traditional vs Innovative)
• Find the white space — where no competitor is strongly positioned
• Position the campaign in that white space
