API Design Principles
REST
- Use nouns for resources (
/users, /orders), verbs for actions (/auth/login)
- Consistent response envelope:

- Proper HTTP status codes (don't return 200 for errors)
- Version your API (

Error Handling
- Centralized error handler -- don't catch-and-ignore
- Structured error responses with error codes, not just messages
- Never leak stack traces or internal details to clients
- Log the full error server-side, return a safe summary to the client
Authentication Flow
- Validate credentials against secure store (bcrypt/argon2 hashed passwords)
- Issue short-lived access tokens + long-lived refresh tokens

Anti-Patterns
