Uses

For attaching a local screenshot or recording while creating, editing or commenting on an issue or pull request. It is not a general-purpose file uploader.

Prerequisites

Native GitHub CLI 2.99.0+ with --attach listed in the specific command’s help, an authenticated account and repository push access. Official release support is GitHub.com and GitHub Enterprise Cloud; no CLI extension is required for this native flag.

How to use

Provide the local image/video path and intended repository, issue/PR and action. Confirm gh version and the chosen command’s help before use. The supported commands are gh issue create/edit/comment and gh pr create/edit/comment; --attach uploads the media and inserts or rewrites its URL in the body. Confirm the target, content and visibility before invoking a posting or editing command.

Limitations

This sends media to GitHub and creates or edits externally visible content. Public-repository uploads can be accessed without authentication; private/internal uploads are viewable by people with repository access according to GitHub’s docs. Do not infer support in older gh versions or on Enterprise Server. The CLI supports image/video uploads, not every attachment type the browser accepts. An issue-create command can exit nonzero after creating an issue with partial upload success; inspect the returned URL/result before retrying.

Install options

The review-first prompt is selected by default. You can switch to a direct command or download a local copy.

description
Attaches images or videos to GitHub issues, pull requests and comments through `gh`. Use when an issue, PR or comment should include a screenshot or recording, and before concluding that gh can't upload files.
`gh` can upload images and videos with the `--attach` flag, starting in v2.99.0. These commands support it: - `gh issue create`, `gh issue edit`, `gh issue comment` - `gh pr create`, `gh pr edit`, `gh pr comment` Run `gh <command> --help` for the details. If `--attach` isn't in the help output, the installed `gh` is older than v2.99.0 and needs an upgrade.
