| description | Content strategy and distribution to grow reach — what to write, topic clusters, refreshing decayed pages, repurposing, directories, feeds, third-party presence. Use when the user mentions "more traffic", "content strategy", "content plan", "what should I write", "promote my article/app/site", "distribution", "newsletter", "nobody reads my posts", or wants to grow an audience. Content & reach
Reach = (content worth citing) × (places it's seen). Most sites fail on the second factor: publishing is the midpoint, not the finish line.
What to write (in order of leverage)
- Refresh before create. Pages that had traffic and lost it are the cheapest wins: update facts, deepen, honestly re-date. Check Search Console for decaying queries first.
- Comparison & alternative content — the most-cited format by both humans and LLMs (~1/3 of AI citations). "X vs Y", "alternatives to X", honest trade-offs.
- Original research / first-hand data — numbers nobody else has (benchmarks, experiments, build logs with metrics). This is what earns links and citations passively.
- Definitive guides on topics you can genuinely out-cover competitors on.
Pick topics by search intent, not by what you feel like writing: someone must be asking, and the page must answer that, not adjacent musings. Group into clusters — one pillar page, spokes for subtopics, dense internal links both ways.
Production standards
- Differentiate with experience: real screenshots, real numbers, real failures. Generic coverage of a covered topic is dead weight (and drags the whole site's quality signals down).
- Every piece: identified author, date, sources for claims, one clear primary keyword/question.
- Quality over cadence. One strong piece a month beats four thin ones — thin content is negative-sum site-wide.
Distribution loop (per piece, not per site)
For every significant piece, work down this list:
- Owned — internal links from related pages + homepage/pillar, RSS feed, newsletter.
- Repurpose — the core insight as a standalone X/LinkedIn post (native format, not a bare link), a thread for the process/numbers.
- Communities — share where the topic genuinely lives (relevant subreddits, HN for engineering write-ups, niche Discords/forums) with the insight up front. Communities smell self-promotion; lead with value, disclose authorship.
- Products: submit to directories and showcases (Product Hunt, alternative-to listings, awesome-lists, App Store features via in-app events).
- Earned — pitch original data to newsletters/roundups that cover the niche; answer relevant questions linking the piece only when it truly answers.
Third-party presence compounds: profiles (GitHub, X, LinkedIn) consistent and linked (sameAs), authored guest content, being the cited source in others' posts. This is also the GEO "presence" pillar — LLMs cite the ecosystem around you as much as your domain.
Measure
- Search Console: queries gained/lost per page, quarterly decay review.
- Analytics: referral sources per piece — double down on channels that actually send readers.
- Per-piece retro after ~4 weeks: kept, grew, or flatlined? Feed the answer into the next topic choice.
