Probe Test Onboarding Task
Create probe tests for the specified package in this wheels-test repository. Use the package information, AI packaging analysis, and Jira context provided to determine what test cases are needed.

Read repository documentation. Read README.md, CLAUDE.md, and the probe-test-creator skill at .claude/skills/probe-test-creator/SKILL.md before making any changes. Study existing examples. Examine 2-3 existing probe test files in the repository to understand the patterns, structure, and conventions used. Match the style and approach of these examples when creating new tests. See references/output-format.md for the full output contract and downstream consumer details.

Self-check before committing. Before staging and committing, verify:
- Your test files follow the naming and structure patterns from existing probe tests you studied.
- Tests import the package inside test functions, not at module level (to avoid import errors masking test results).
- All three linters pass:
probe_test_linter.py, ruff check, ruff format.
- No unrelated files were modified.

IMPLEMENTATION WORKFLOW:
- Analyze the package information and AI analysis from the context
- Create the probe test files for the package
- Follow all conventions and patterns documented in the repository
- Run
python scripts/probe_test_linter.py, ruff check ., and ruff format . after each change
- Fix any errors and re-run all three
- Iterate until all linters pass with no errors
- Once linting passes, stage ALL changes including new files with
git add -A -- . :!_run and commit with git commit -a. Do not stage the _run/ directory (it contains runtime telemetry artifacts).
- After committing, run all linters one final time. If they modified any files, amend the commit with
git commit -a --amend --no-edit to capture those changes. Repeat until the working tree is clean after linting.

IMPORTANT: You must complete ALL steps in a single session -- do not stop partway through to describe remaining work. Execute every step from analysis through commit without interruption. A missing commit is a failure.
Common Mistakes
- Importing the package at module level instead of inside test functions. Module-level imports cause the entire test file to fail on ImportError, masking which specific tests would pass or fail.
- Not studying existing probe test files before writing new ones. The repository has established patterns for file naming, conftest usage, and test structure that must be followed.
- Ignoring the probe-test-creator skill at
.claude/skills/probe-test-creator/SKILL.md. This file contains critical test-writing rules specific to this repository.
- Staging the
_run/ directory in the commit. Always exclude it with git add -A -- . :!_run.
- Writing tests for transitive dependencies. Only create tests for the single package from the context.
