Workflow

1. Read governing repository guidance first.

   • Start with the nearest AGENTS.md or AGENTS.override.md for the touched paths.
   • Treat local architectural rules, rendering rules, threading rules, and test expectations as the review baseline.

2. Review the real execution path, not isolated snippets.

   • Trace the feature or fix through the systems that actually participate at runtime.
   • Identify ownership boundaries: engine, state, manager, controller, data store, renderer, worker, and event flow.
   • Compare the change against established subsystem patterns before judging style or architecture.
   • If the user asks about a specific file or symptom, stay on that path until code evidence requires spillover.

3. Prioritize systemic coherence over local neatness.

   • Look for code that seems individually reasonable but breaks subsystem contracts.
   • Check whether data ownership, mutation boundaries, render ownership, and main-thread or worker-thread responsibilities remain consistent.
   • Reject fixes that solve symptoms by bypassing the intended architecture.

4. Check completeness, not just correctness.

   • Verify lifecycle coverage: init, enter, update, render, transition, cleanup, shutdown.
   • Verify integration coverage: registration, subscriptions, state transitions, persistent vs transient handlers, controller setup, manager ordering, and resource lifetime.
   • Verify behavior coverage: production path, failure path, edge cases, and test alignment.

5. Evaluate production-readiness.

   • Check for missing targeted tests, incomplete migration, hidden coupling, perf regressions, unsafe allocations, and thread-safety gaps.
   • Check whether the change preserves one-present-per-frame render flow, existing GPU/SDL ownership rules, and worker-budget or future-completion rules when relevant.
   • Report only actionable, evidence-backed findings. Skip speculative style feedback.

Review Focus

• System coherency across managers, controllers, game states, AI, EDM, and rendering paths.
• Completeness of lifecycle work, cleanup order, handler registration, and transition behavior.
• Architectural fit with existing subsystem patterns instead of one-off local fixes.
• Hidden integration gaps between production code and tests.
• Behavior that is only partially migrated, partially wired, or only correct on one render path or one thread mode.
• Performance and memory regressions caused by extra allocations, ownership churn, or broken reusable-buffer patterns.
• Event and transition regressions from persistent handler churn, transient handler leaks, state-owned collision callbacks, or incomplete manager cleanup.

Findings Format

• Lead with findings, ordered by severity.
• For each finding, name the concrete risk and the affected subsystem.
• Cite file paths and lines when available.
• Prefer “what breaks and why” over generic advice.
• Do not call out a risk unless the code path proves it or the missing verification is itself material.
• If no findings are present, say so explicitly and note any residual verification gaps.

Review Heuristics

• Ask whether the change is coherent with the whole system, not just the touched file.
• Ask what still has to be updated for the system to be complete.
• Ask whether both production code and tests reflect the same contract.
• Ask whether the implementation respects runtime ownership and lifecycle rules.
• Ask whether the fix holds across render paths, state transitions, and threaded or non-threaded execution.
