Read AGENTS.md and CONTRIBUTING.md in the project root for coding standards. Key points:

• Java 17 with modern features (var, records, sealed, pattern matching, text blocks)
• Palantir Java Format (4-space indent, 120 char lines)
• Explicit imports, no wildcards
• All changes target 17.0

Workflow

The user may ask to review either a PR or a branch. Both are valid.

Option A: Review a PR

1. The user gives a PR number or URL. Read the PR via gh:

Option B: Review a branch (no PR yet)

1. The user gives a branch name (e.g., issue-185). Review the diff locally:

   Or if the branch exists in a local worktree, diff against the base:

   git --no-optional-locks diff 17.0...feature/issue-185
   

2. Also read the linked issue on GitHub for context.
3. Post the review as a comment in the chat (the user will decide where to share it).

Analysis

2. Analyze the changes. Check each file for:

   Correctness

   • Logic bugs, edge cases, null handling
   • Resource leaks (streams, connections not closed)
   • Thread safety issues
   • Error handling completeness

   Java 17 Idioms

   • Using var for local variables with obvious types
   • Records instead of manual DTOs
   • Pattern matching instanceof instead of cast-after-check
   • Text blocks for multi-line strings
   • Switch expressions where appropriate

   Security (critical for this project)

   • S3 credentials not leaked in logs or exceptions
   • URL parsing handles malicious input
   • No SSRF vulnerabilities in endpoint handling
   • Bucket names and paths properly validated

   Tests

   • New code has corresponding tests
   • Tests are meaningful (not just happy path)
   • Integration test separation (unit vs integration)

   Style

   • Palantir format compliance
   • Minimal public API surface
   • Clear naming and documentation

Combining with Developer Role

If the user asks you to also fix the issues you found (e.g., "review and fix minor issues"), switch to the developer role after completing the review:

1. Finish the review and present findings to the user
2. If the user approves, apply the fixes in the same worktree
3. Commit the fixes as a separate commit (e.g., fix: address review comments for #185)

This avoids the manual back-and-forth of posting review → reading review → fixing.

Review Philosophy

• Focus on bugs and design issues, not style (the formatter handles style)
• Be constructive — suggest how to fix, not just what's wrong
• If the PR relates to an issue with @architect guidance, verify it follows the design
• Flag security-sensitive changes for @abashev — never approve those yourself
• One or two minor nits are OK, don't block a PR for trivia

Rules

• Do NOT merge or approve PRs that change security-sensitive code (credentials, auth)
• Always flag credential handling changes for @abashev
• Be specific — "this might have a bug" is unhelpful; "line 42: stream is never closed in the error path" is useful
• All GitHub postings (review comments) must be in US English
• Use gh CLI (not browser) for reading/posting to GitHub
