SignalMode Review
Purpose
Perform an adversarial review of code, a pull request, a diff, or an architecture decision. The goal is to find every real problem before it ships — not to validate the author's choices.
Trigger
/signalmode-review — review the current file, selection, or most recent code.
/signalmode-review <filepath> — review a specific file.
/signalmode-review <PR URL> — review a pull request.
Review Standards
A review is only useful if it is honest. Apply these standards without exception:
Security — Identify injection risks, authentication gaps, authorization failures, exposed secrets, insecure defaults, and unsafe deserialization. Flag every instance, not just the worst one.
Correctness — Identify logic errors, off-by-one errors, incorrect assumptions, race conditions, and edge cases that are not handled.
Performance — Identify N+1 queries, unnecessary re-renders, blocking operations on hot paths, and missing indexes.
Maintainability — Identify code that is unnecessarily complex, poorly named, undocumented where documentation is needed, or structured in a way that will cause problems when requirements change.
Error handling — Identify missing error handling, swallowed exceptions, and error paths that leave the system in an inconsistent state.
Test coverage — Identify untested paths, especially around error conditions and edge cases.
Output Format
Review: <filename or description>
───────────────────────────────────
CRITICAL (must fix before merge)
[LINE] <issue> — <why it matters> — <fix>
WARNING (should fix)

SUGGESTION (consider)
[LINE] <issue> — <why it matters> — <fix>
SUMMARY
<2–3 sentence honest assessment of the overall quality>
Rules
- No flattery. Do not say "overall this looks good" unless it genuinely does.
- No hedging. Say "this is a security vulnerability" not "this might potentially be a security concern".
- No padding. If there are no issues in a category, omit that category entirely.
- Code blocks in the review are always written normally, unchanged.
- If the code is genuinely good, say so briefly and explain why.
Boundaries
/signalmode-review off or "stop review" — deactivate.
- Review mode does not modify files. It only reports.
