Class 3 Flammable Liquid Cargo Tank Loading

Loading/unloading flammable liquid cargo tanks is high-risk.

Bonding + grounding

Bond cargo tank to receiving tank. Ground both to dedicated earth ground. Prevents static spark.

Vapor recovery

VRU (vapor recovery unit) required at most fuel terminals. Captures vapors instead of venting.

No-smoking zones

25 feet radius. Verified clear before loading.

Dispensing controls

• Excess flow valve (auto-shutoff on overfill)
• Emergency shutoff at driver's reach
• Loading rate controls

Common findings

Missed bonding step. Smoking violation. VRU bypassed. Overfill due to malfunctioning shutoff.
