Hazmat Shipping Paper Driver Reach Rules

49 CFR 172.205 requires shipping paper within driver's reach.

When in cab

Door pocket, visor pouch, secured to dashboard, on driver's seat. Must be accessible without leaving the cab.

When out of cab

Driver's seat OR door pocket. Always positioned where police/EMS can find quickly without searching.

NOT acceptable

• In glove box (closed)
• Under driver's seat
• In trunk
• Tucked in unlabeled file folder

Inspector check

'Where are your shipping papers?' Driver should produce in 5 seconds. Slow → violation.
