Convert — Robot Framework

Converts Robot Framework keyword-driven test suites to any supported target, and emits Robot Framework from any source.

Robot Framework is not Gherkin-BDD despite supporting free-form Given/When/Then prefixes. It's a keyword-driven framework where every test is a sequence of calls to keywords (either built-in, library-provided, or user-defined). The DSL's superficial readability makes it look like BDD, but the underlying model is "ordered keyword invocation with positional/named args" — closer to a DSL-wrapped procedural test than to Cucumber-style gherkin.

When to use

Trigger when:

• robotframework in requirements.txt / Pipfile / pyproject.toml / setup.py.
• .robot files with *** Settings *** / *** Test Cases *** / *** Keywords *** / *** Variables *** / *** Tasks *** section headers.
• .resource files (Robot resource files, same syntax, no test cases).
• robot.yaml / red.xml (RED / RobotCode IDE config).
• Python files importing from robot.api, robot.libraries.BuiltIn, SeleniumLibrary, robotframework-browser, AppiumLibrary, RequestsLibrary.
• robot tests/ / pabot --processes 4 tests/ in CI config or scripts.
• *** Comments *** at top (some teams use it) or .. code:: robotframework inside reStructuredText.

• Robot Framework 6.x and 5.x (semantics differ in FOR / IF; 5+ syntax used by default).
• Plain .robot files + .resource files + variable files (.py, .yaml, .json).
• *** Test Cases *** and *** Tasks *** sections (same mechanics; tasks are the RPA variant).
• Libraries:
  • BuiltIn (always imported)
  • SeleniumLibrary (most common web)
  • Browser (Playwright — robotframework-browser)
  • RequestsLibrary (HTTP API testing)
  • AppiumLibrary (mobile)
  • Collections, String, DateTime, Process, OperatingSystem, XML, JSONLibrary
  • Custom Python libraries (module-based or class-based with @keyword decorator).
• Variable scopes and the Set Global Variable / Set Suite Variable / Set Test Variable hoisting family.
• Test settings: [Tags], [Setup], [Teardown], [Timeout], [Template], [Documentation], [Arguments], [Return].
• Test-template-driven data tables.
• *** Variables *** sections.
• Resource file import and keyword composition.
• Control flow: FOR ... IN / IN RANGE / IN ENUMERATE / IN ZIP, WHILE, IF/ELSE IF/ELSE, BREAK, CONTINUE, TRY/EXCEPT/FINALLY.
• Run Keyword If, Run Keyword Unless, Run Keywords, Run Keyword And Return Status, Run Keyword And Ignore Error.
• Listeners (--listener MyListener), pre/post-run hooks.
• pabot parallel test execution.

Out of scope

• RIDE IDE project files (.rimd, etc.) — not extraction-relevant.
• RobotFramework "Dialog" library (manual-interactive steps) — flag as todo.
• Screenshot / video recording via OS-level libraries — preserve as best-effort.
• SSHLibrary / DatabaseLibrary / domain-specific Library calls — preserve as todo with warning unless the target has an equivalent concept.
