| description | Write, translate, edit, or audit clear, controlled technical English for procedures, manuals, maintenance and operating instructions, safety instructions, troubleshooting, specifications, and factual technical descriptions. Use the lightweight rules by default. Use the official ASD-STE100 review only when the user or a governing brief explicitly requires STE compliance. |
technicalwords
Load ./references/technicalwords.md for every task. It is the default working profile and handles most technical-English drafting, translation, editing, and audit without opening the official standard.
The profile is independently worded and informed by ASD-STE100. It does not reproduce the controlled dictionary and cannot establish ASD-STE100 compliance.
Route
Use lightweight mode for ordinary technical documentation and requests for clear, controlled, concise, or consistent technical English.
Use full-review mode only when the user, contract, publication rule, or governing brief explicitly requires STE, Simplified Technical English, ASD-STE100, or a compliance review. Then also load ./references/asd-ste100-review.md and follow its official-source gate.
When another writing or style system is active, treat technicalwords as the technical-language constraint. Source truth, safety, law, the task, and governing publication directives stay above it. Apply stylistic preferences only where the rules do not conflict.
Lightweight workflow
- Classify the text as procedure, description, safety instruction, specification, label, table, or mixed content.
- Freeze technical meaning, hazards, conditions, values, units, identifiers, sequence, and source status.
- Identify the governing terminology source. Flag unresolved terms instead of guessing.
- Draft or revise with
technicalwords.md.
- Run its structure pass, word pass, and final self-check.
- Return the production text first, followed by only the term or source questions that block correctness.
For a review, list confirmed defects before judgment calls. Give the excerpt, compact rule number, minimal correction, and unresolved authority decision.
Output and status
In lightweight mode, use Technicalwords draft, Technicalwords edit, or Technicalwords audit.
In full-review mode, use only the states defined in asd-ste100-review.md. Never call output ASD-approved, ASD-certified, or tool-certified.
