Also trigger for questions like "how do I create a X in Kanvas", "what fields does Y have", "which input do I use for Z", or any task that requires reading the Kanvas API schema before writing code. Always use this skill before writing any Kanvas GraphQL — never guess types, arguments, or enum values from memory.

Environments

There are two environments, each with its own schema directory:

Environment	Branch / Source	Base URL

Always fetch docs from the correct environment. Never cross-reference between them.

Environment Selection Rule

Before fetching any documentation, you must know which environment to use.

If the user's message or context makes the environment clear, use it:

• Mentions of "production", "live", "prod", "release", "stable" → use prod
• Mentions of "development", "dev", "staging", "branch", "latest", "unreleased" → use dev
• The user is working on a feature branch or local development → use dev
• The user is debugging a production issue or integrating against the live API → use prod

If the environment cannot be inferred, ask before doing anything else:

"Before I look this up — are you working against the development schema (latest, may have unreleased features) or the production schema (stable, current release)?"

Do not assume. Do not default silently to either environment. Wait for the answer, then proceed.

Once the user has confirmed an environment for the session, remember it and do not ask again unless they explicitly switch.

Navigation Hierarchy

Follow this order when fetching documentation:

1. Entry point — _LIBRARY_MAP.md Read this first to understand overall context and available modules.

2. Core index — choose based on what the user needs:

   • For queries (read ops): {BASE_URL}_INDEX_QUERIES.md
   • For mutations (write ops): {BASE_URL}_INDEX_MUTATIONS.md
   • For data structures: {BASE_URL}_INDEX_ENTITIES.md
   • For input types: {BASE_URL}_INDEX_INPUTS.md
   • For allowed values: {BASE_URL}_INDEX_CONSTANTS.md

3. Auto-generated sub-indexes — only fetch if specifically needed:

   • For query filter types (WHERE/OrderBy): {BASE_URL}_INDEX_INPUTS_FILTERS.md
   • For column enum types: {BASE_URL}_INDEX_CONSTANTS_COLUMNS.md
   • For paginator wrappers: {BASE_URL}_INDEX_ENTITIES_PAGINATORS.md

   Shortcut: Filter type names follow predictable patterns. For a query named actions, the filter input is QueryActionsWhereWhereConditions. You can construct the filename directly without fetching the filter index.

4. Leaf node — the specific .md file for the type (e.g. {BASE_URL}User.md)

Only fetch what you need. Do not load all docs upfront — navigate to the specific node that answers the user's question.

Implementation Rules

A. Never-Guess Rule (type verification)

Before writing a single line of GraphQL, confirm from the docs:

• Nullability: Does the field have !? If not, handle potential null.
• Mutation arguments: Check _INDEX_MUTATIONS.md for the mutation, then read the required Input.md file.
• Enums: Never suggest arbitrary strings for status/type fields. Always read the Enum file from the Constants index.
• Scalar types: Confirm custom scalars (e.g. Date, JSON, UUID) before using them in variables.

B. Response Format

Every answer that includes a GraphQL snippet must end with a Documentation References section listing the environment used and the exact URLs fetched to validate the response. Example:

C. Unknown Entities

If the user asks about something not found in the indexes, respond:

"I reviewed the API map at [URL] and couldn't find a reference to [Entity]. Is it possible the schema on the [dev/prod] environment isn't updated yet?"

Do not guess or fabricate a schema.

Fetching Pattern

GET {BASE_URL}{filename}

Substitute {BASE_URL} with the environment base URL selected above.

Example — fetching the User type from dev:

Use web_fetch for every doc retrieval. Do not cache or assume content from previous conversations.
