| description | Brand identity for Dr. Milad Khatib — Beirut-based Civil Engineering Consultancy and Patent Holder (د. ميلاد الخطيب — الاستشارات الهندسية المدنية). Trigger on 'Khatib', 'Dr. Khatib', 'Milad Khatib', 'miladkhatib.com', 'Khatib brand', or any Khatib-branded output: website, CV, capability statement, patent case studies, expert-witness one-pagers, LinkedIn, Arabic/Lebanese institutional materials, Order of Engineers correspondence, tender submissions. Enforces Deep Navy #0A0E17, Gold #C8A44E, Heritage Green #1A4D2E, Cream #F5F1E8, with Blueprint Blue #2E5E8B as a tertiary technical accent. Typography: Cormorant Garamond display, IBM Plex Sans body, IBM Plex Sans Arabic for all Arabic, IBM Plex Mono for technical metadata (patent numbers, coordinates, equation refs). Two-register voice: English consultant (technical, plain-spoken, project-led) vs Arabic heritage (formal, scholarly, OEA-respectful). NOT for Ibrahim Energy (use ibrahim-energy-brand-kit), 주체강 (use juchekang-brand-kit), iPurpose, Cherish, or Fit For Gov. Honesty rule: patents are Lebanese-registered only — never imply international IP coverage without verification. |
Dr. Milad Khatib — Brand Kit
Every piece of content carrying the Khatib name must feel like it came from a senior Beirut consulting engineer who could be sworn in tomorrow as an expert witness, sit on a Lebanese ministry technical committee, and present at an international conference — all in one week. Bilingual, evidence-first, technically precise, never inflated.
Read this file completely before producing any Khatib-branded content. For the complete visual reference with logo SVGs, social previews, and pattern examples, read references/brand-guide.html.
Brand Identity
Name (EN): Dr. Milad Khatib · Civil Engineering Consultancy
Name (AR): د. ميلاد الخطيب · الاستشارات الهندسية المدنية
Domain: miladkhatib.com
Mark: MK monogram set inside an isometric structural frame
Tagline (EN): Engineering by proof.
Tagline (AR): الهندسة بالبرهان.
Practice description. A solo Beirut-based consultancy in structural, geotechnical, and forensic civil engineering. Patent-holding, peer-reviewed, OEA-registered. Engaged by contractors, municipalities, water authorities, insurers, law firms, and academic collaborators across Lebanon and the Gulf. Issues defensible technical reports, expert-witness opinions, design verifications, and patent licensing materials.
Origin. Dr. Khatib is a structural and geotechnical engineer (PhD, Beirut Arab University, 2018) currently affiliated with the Lebanese International University and ISSAE-Cnam Liban. The brand is built around two registered Lebanese patents and a peer-reviewed publication record concentrated in post-tensioned concrete, dam engineering, and Lebanese water-resource engineering.
Core values: Evidence over assertion · Documentation over reputation · Defensibility over decoration · Bilingual by default · Honest scope. Every claim is traceable to a publication, a registration number, a project, or a stamped report.
Personality. Senior consulting voice. Quietly authoritative. Speaks the language of the construction site and the seminar room with equal precision. Comfortable with ambiguity in the field, intolerant of ambiguity in the report.

Relationship to Other Brands
This is a personal professional practice. It does not sit under iPurpose, Ibrahim Energy, 주체강, Fit For Gov, Cherish, or VI Care. The visual language is inspired by Ibrahim Energy Partners' system and shares the same color and typography stack, but the marks, motifs, and voice are distinct. Khatib materials should never reference Ibrahim Energy partners, deals, or contacts; the practices are independent.
Quick Reference — Colors
The Khatib palette is the Ibrahim Energy palette with one role reassignment and one tertiary addition: Gold is reserved for innovation/patent contexts rather than general headlines, and Blueprint Blue is elevated to a tertiary brand color for diagrammatic and technical-drawing content.

Critical color rules:
- Navy is the default surface for all consultant-facing content (CVs, capability statements, expert-witness materials, technical reports)
- Heritage Green is reserved for: water/dam/environmental case studies, Arabic-primary content, sustainability service pages, OEA correspondence
- Gold is earned — used for patent marks, awards, named accolades, top/bottom rules. Three gold elements per page maximum
- Blueprint Blue is the diagram color — schematics, callout numbers in patent illustrations, axes in figures. Never used for body text
- NEVER mix Heritage Green and Deep Navy as competing dominant colors in the same composition
- NEVER use bright/saturated greens or blues — the palette is muted by design
- Gold text on white or cream fails accessibility contrast — never use gold on light backgrounds for body text
Quick Reference — Typography
Same stack as Ibrahim Energy with one addition: IBM Plex Mono for technical metadata (patent numbers, equation references, coordinates, registration numbers, callout labels in technical drawings). This signals "engineering document" without becoming gimmicky.
| Element | Family | Weight | Notes |
|---|
| Display heading (English) | Cormorant Garamond | 400-700 | Hero text, document titles, section heads |
| Body text (English) | IBM Plex Sans | 300-700 | Body, UI, labels, captions |
| All Arabic content | IBM Plex Sans Arabic | 300-700 | RTL direction, all Arabic text |
| Technical metadata | IBM Plex Mono | 400-500 | Patent numbers, OEA registration, DOIs, coordinates, equation refs, callout labels |
| Document fallback (heading) | Georgia | 700 | When Google Fonts unavailable (DOCX, PPTX, PDF) |
| Document fallback (body) | Arial | 400 | Pair with Georgia for documents |
| Document fallback (mono) | Courier New | 400 | Last-resort technical mono |
Fallback stacks:
Cormorant Garamond → Georgia → serif
IBM Plex Sans → Arial → system sans-serif
IBM Plex Sans Arabic → Arial → sans-serif
IBM Plex Mono → Courier New → monospace
Type rules:
- Arabic text always uses IBM Plex Sans Arabic — never a Latin font, never auto-fallback
- Display headings use Cormorant Garamond (not Playfair Display — that's 주체강; not Inter — that's iPurpose)
- Body uses IBM Plex Sans (not Source Sans 3 — that's 주체강)
- Mono is reserved — patent numbers, registration IDs, DOIs, equation refs only. Never use mono for body or headings
- All external materials include both English and Arabic. The Arabic version is not a translation afterthought — it is co-equal
- Numbered lists in technical reports use mono numerals (
01., 02., 03.) for the numbering, sans body for the text
Numerals. Western Arabic numerals (0–9) by default, including in Arabic-language documents. Use Eastern Arabic numerals (٠–٩) only where the document is statutory Arabic correspondence to Lebanese government bodies and the host document already uses them.
Brand Voice — Two Registers
The brand speaks differently to different audiences but always with the same underlying values: evidence, documentation, scope honesty.
English Consultant Register
Tone. Senior, plain-spoken, technical. Confident without bravado. Numbers carry the argument; adjectives carry nothing.
Language. Speak in spans, loads, factors of safety, allowable bearing, water table elevations. Reference codes (ACI 318, Eurocode 2, CSA, Lebanese seismic provisions). Cite case-study DOIs. Use the active voice for what was done, the passive voice only where the agent is genuinely irrelevant.
Style. First sentence states the finding. Subsequent sentences support it. Methodology and limitations are stated explicitly, not hidden. The document is more useful than impressive.
Motto. "Engineering by proof."
Example.
A post-tensioned flat-slab system exhibited progressive corner deflection of 38 mm at 90 days, exceeding the L/240 serviceability limit prescribed by ACI 318 and the Lebanese seismic provisions. Finite-element re-analysis using inverted-U shaped reinforcement — the methodology I documented in Case Studies in Construction Materials (2020, DOI 10.1016/j.cscm.2020.e00370) and re-validated for monostrand anchorage in Heliyon (2024, DOI 10.1016/j.heliyon.2024.e28996) — recovers measurable capacity in the failed zone. Recommended remediation: targeted post-tension regrouting on the affected lines, supplementary mat reinforcement at the perimeter columns. Cost estimate to follow under separate cover.
Arabic Heritage Register
Tone. Formal, respectful of the engineering tradition, technically precise without becoming stiff. Honors the Lebanese engineering lineage and the OEA tradition.
Language. Use proper Modern Standard Arabic. Technical terms in their accepted Lebanese-engineering form (e.g., الخرسانة المسلحة, مقاومة القص, التربة الطينية, السد الثقالي). Avoid colloquial Lebanese. When citing codes, give both the international name (ACI 318) and any Arabic-language standards if they exist.
Style. Open with respect to the recipient (مقدم إلى... or حضرة الـ...). Lead with the technical finding, then the methodology, then recommendations. Close with a formal sign-off (تفضلوا بقبول فائق الاحترام).
Motto. الهندسة بالبرهان.
Example.
Water Practice & Technology 17(8): 1679–1691 (2022).
التوصية: تنفيذ مرحلتي حقن متتاليتين، مع رصد الضغط الخلفي طوال العملية.
Anti-Patterns (Never Do This)
- Inflating credentials. Specifically: do not lead with "SPSC Ambassador" — it is a free volunteer badge from a UK community, not an accredited certification, and sophisticated readers check.
- "26+ years experience" without naming projects. Either name the projects (with client and date), or do not claim the years.
- Implying patents are international. Both patents are Lebanese-registered unless and until the client confirms PCT, USPTO, or EPO filings. Write "registered in Lebanon" plainly.
- Stock-photo blueprints, generic skyscraper hero shots, or AI-generated "engineer in a hard hat" images. Use only authentic project photos, technical drawings, or site photography.
- Mixing this brand with Khatib & Alami iconography or naming. K&A is a different firm with a much larger footprint; the rebuild must do disambiguation work, not borrow equity.
- Drop shadows, glows, gradients on the logo. The mark is line-and-serif only.
- Bright accent colors. The palette is muted by design.
- Adjectival pile-ups: "renowned," "world-class," "cutting-edge." Cut every one. Let the work speak.
- Long paragraphs in expert-witness materials. Reports are scannable: heading, finding, evidence, recommendation.
Logo System
Primary Mark (Full Lockup)
The primary lockup is a four-line typographic mark with gold rules above and below:
─────────── (gold rule, 1px)
DR. MILAD KHATIB ← Cormorant Garamond, 700, white on navy
CIVIL ENGINEERING CONSULTANCY ← IBM Plex Sans, 500, gold, tracked +200
د. ميلاد الخطيب ← IBM Plex Sans Arabic, 500, warm gray
الاستشارات الهندسية المدنية ← IBM Plex Sans Arabic, 400, warm gray
─────────── (gold rule, 1px)
Use the primary mark on document covers, capability statements, large-format prints, and the website header above 768px.
Monogram (MK Mark)
For favicons, social avatars, document watermarks, and any application below 200 px wide. The monogram is MK in serif inside an isometric cube outline, with a gold rule above. The cube is the structural-engineering counterpart to Ibrahim Energy's Islamic hexagon — instantly readable as "structure" without being literal.
- Cube outline: gold (#C8A44E), 2 px stroke at 192×192
- "MK" centered in white Cormorant Garamond, 700, optical-sized for the container
- Below the cube, micro-text: "ENG · LB" in IBM Plex Mono, 400, gold, tracked +300
Wordmark (Type Only)
For dense layouts, email signatures, and footers. Just the typography lockup without rules:
DR. MILAD KHATIB · د. ميلاد الخطيب
Color Variants
| Variant | Background | Text Colors |
|---|
| Standard | Deep Navy | White headline, gold subline, warm gray Arabic |
| Inverse | Cream | Deep Navy headline, gold subline, stone Arabic |
| Single-color (gold) | any dark | All gold (for stamping, embossing, foil) |
| Single-color (navy) | any light | All Deep Navy (for newspaper, photocopy, fax) |
Clear Space and Minimum Size
- Clear space: Equal to the cap-height of "DR. MILAD KHATIB" on all sides
- Minimum lockup size: 36 mm wide print, 240 px wide screen
- Minimum monogram size: 16 px (favicon scale) — below this, omit the cube and use just "MK"
Misuse
- Never recolor the mark outside the four sanctioned variants
- Never apply drop shadow, outer glow, or gradient
- Never stretch or rotate
- Never place over busy photography without a navy or cream container
- Never use the monogram alongside Khatib & Alami, Ibrahim Energy, or any other brand mark
Patterns & Textures
The Khatib system has two pattern families. Both are subtle texture, not decoration. Opacity stays low: 3–5 % on dark, 5–8 % on light.
Pattern 1 — Isometric Grid
A 30°/30° isometric line grid at 24-px module. Used for:
- Document cover backgrounds (very low opacity)
- Section dividers in long technical reports
- Hero-section overlays on the website
Pattern 2 — Patent Schematic
Numbered callout markers (small circles with numerals 1–14) connected by leader lines, in the style of patent drawings. Used for:
- Patent case-study page backgrounds (very subtle)
- Innovation/IP section headers
- The "How we work" diagram on the website
Never use:
- Islamic geometric patterns (those are Ibrahim Energy)
- Hanok roof tiles or river textures (those are 주체강)
- Photographic concrete textures (clichéd for engineering brands)
- Grid paper or graph paper as decoration (looks amateur)

Document Templates (Required Outputs)
The brand kit is incomplete without these production templates. Each must exist in both EN and AR.
- CV / Resume — A4, two-column, primary lockup header, Stone body on Cream, gold dividers between sections (Education / Positions / Patents / Publications / Reviewer roles / Memberships).
- Capability Statement — 4-page A4, navy cover, cream interior, used for tender prequalification.
- Patent Case Study — single A4, one per patent, structured: Title / Jurisdiction & Number / Filing & Status / Abstract / Claim Summary / Drawings / Licensing CTA.
- Expert-Witness One-Pager — US Letter, navy header band with primary lockup, scope of testimony, jurisdictions, methodology, sample casework (anonymised), retainer model.
- Technical Report Cover — A4, navy cover with gold rule, primary lockup, project ID in mono, date in mono, "CONFIDENTIAL — TECHNICAL REPORT" or "FORENSIC OPINION" stamp.
- Letterhead — A4, cream, primary lockup top, gold rule, body area, gold rule, footer with OEA registration number, address, email, phone in IBM Plex Mono.
- Project Profile Card — half-A4, used for project portfolio. Project name, client (if disclosable), dates, role, scope, outcome, signature project photo.
- Email Signature — HTML, name + title + Arabic name + phone + email + miladkhatib.com + ORCID + OEA #, all in IBM Plex Sans / IBM Plex Sans Arabic.
Honesty Rules (Brand-Critical)
These rules govern how we render a documented record without inflating it. The CV — 17 pages, fact-dense — is the source of truth. The rules exist to keep us proportionate to what's there, neither hedging it down nor pumping it up.
The single most important rule on this page: this is a civilian engineering brand. Dr. Khatib has explicitly confirmed via WhatsApp (2 May 2026) that he does not want military service referenced anywhere on his public materials. That preference is non-negotiable, and it shapes every other rule below.
What's confirmed and on-brand
- OEA Beirut membership — confirmed, since January 1999. Use that exact phrasing on letterheads. The specific registration number is still to be confirmed via WhatsApp; mark inline as
[Reg # to be inserted] until it arrives.
- 27-year career. Documented in civilian engineering practice and academia, 1998 → present. BAU Bachelor (1998), Master (2005), PhD (2018), then teaching and research-supervisor roles at LIU, University of Balamand, and ISSAE-Cnam Liban. Don't say "26+ years"; show the timeline.
- 52 publications. Real, with DOIs. List them individually on the publications page. The home page selects six. Don't aggregate "30+ publications" — the actual number is higher and verifiable.
- 21 editorial / reviewer positions. Real, at named journals. List them by name on the editorial page, grouped by region. Don't say "18+ journals" — the actual number is 21 and the journals are nameable.
- Patents — Lebanese-registered, both with companion publications.
- 2023: Economic Vessel to Clean Polluted Water by Solid Waste in Waterway. Co-inventor Dr. Bassam Mahmoud. Companion: Lecture Notes in Civil Engineering, Vol. 366 (2023), Springer Singapore. DOI 10.1007/978-981-99-3737-0_11.
- 2025: Food-Particle Collection Device. Sole inventor. Companion publication forthcoming or under preparation.
- Both stated as Lebanese-registered. No language implying international filing.
- The book. Breaking Limits in Prestressed Concrete: Shear Strength Enhancement through Inverted-U-Shaped Reinforcement. Available on Amazon. Pin at the top of the publications page; reference once on the home page. Do not over-feature.
- Languages. English, French, Italian, Arabic native. Document each at proportionate level. Do not name certifying bodies that are themselves military (the French Ministry of Defense certificates are documented in the CV; on public materials, simply state "fluent French" without naming the certifier).
- MBA in progress. Per Dr. Khatib's WhatsApp message (2 May 2026), an MBA from AUST is expected by end of semester. Reference as "MBA candidate, AUST" — never as already-conferred until he confirms it has been awarded.
- SPSC Ambassador. Real membership, verifiable code 00014774. Goes in the Memberships section alongside OEA, not in the hero.
- The portrait. Authorised official portrait, supplied by Dr. Khatib via WhatsApp, May 2026. Use freely. No AI-generation disclaimers. Frame as "Dr. Milad Khatib at his office, Beirut, 2026" — civilian framing, no institutional attribution.
Civilian-only — the non-negotiable rule
Dr. Khatib has explicitly requested no military references on any public materials. This is final and applies everywhere.
- No mention of his military service, current or former, in any form, anywhere — bio paragraphs, social posts, letterheads, captions, alt text, metadata, file names, Schema.org JSON-LD, OG descriptions, sitemap entries, anywhere.
- No mention of military medals, even paraphrased ("decorated"). The medals listed in the CV stay on the CV; they do not appear on miladkhatib.com or any social channel.
- No mention of military training courses, units, ranks, or postings — the 5th Infantry Brigade, 2nd Land Border Regiment, Office of Military Housing, Engineering Moderate, Real Estate Service Department, Properties Section / Beirut Region, Battalion Commander Course, the China PLA course — all stay off public materials.
- No mention of the AUST Strategic and Security Analysis diploma. It's listed in the CV but its name is military-policy adjacent. Skip it. The MBA-in-progress is the academic credential to feature.
- No "military precision" metaphors, no defence-policy framing, no security-and-strategy references.
- No public-service-record page on the site. The four committee chairmanships from the CV (2008, 2010, 2011, 2020) are excluded from the public kit. The pattern of being committee chief at every major Lebanese disaster is identifying for anyone in the field, even with all explicit military references stripped. The page is preserved in
/_optional for possible future use; it does not run in the active kit.
- No social posts describing forensic / disaster-assessment work that would imply institutional affiliation. Forensic work is fine as a service-pillar offering; specific past disaster-response engagements are not referenced.
Content that remains unaffected
- Patent numbers go on the page only when the client supplies them. Use clearly-marked placeholders until confirmed.
- No stock imagery. The portrait is one authorised image. Beyond that, use only authentic project, conference, or demonstration photos when supplied.
- Disambiguation from Khatib & Alami. Every external document carries the full name, "Dr. Milad Khatib · Civil Engineering Consultancy."
- Curate, don't catalogue. With 52 publications and 21 editorial positions, the home page must show six and four respectively. Link to the full record.
- Lead with the academic record, the patents, and the published research. Without the public-service work, the home-page hero leads with the breadth of the published research, the two patents, and the multi-institutional academic affiliation. That alone is a substantial brand.
- Numbers carry the argument. Citations come with DOIs. Stats come with sources. Awards come with dates. The brand promise is engineering by proof; the writing has to model it.
Design Principles
1. Bilingual is Default
Every external piece includes both English and Arabic. The Arabic is co-equal, not a footer afterthought. Arabic-first content is allowed and encouraged for OEA, ministry, and Lebanese-municipal correspondence.
2. Navy Commands, Green Connects, Blue Diagrams, Gold Marks
Navy is the consultant voice. Heritage Green is the heritage and sustainability voice. Blueprint Blue is for technical drawings and diagrammatic content. Gold marks innovation and authority. Each color does one thing well; none of them does everything.
3. The Document is the Brand
This practice produces documents — reports, opinions, drawings, patents, papers. The brand lives in document craft: typography, hierarchy, white space, footnotes, references, page numbers. A beautifully set technical report is more on-brand than any LinkedIn post.
4. Schematic, Not Decorative
Visual elements come from engineering vocabulary: isometric grids, patent callouts, structural sections, contour lines. Never roses, falcons, hard hats, generic skyscrapers, or AI-generated "engineer at desk" imagery.
5. Evidence First
Every claim links to a source. Patents link to registration numbers. Projects link to scope and outcome. Publications link to DOIs. The brand's promise is defensibility — the materials must model it.
Workflow
- Before producing any Khatib-branded content, read this SKILL.md.
- For the complete visual reference with SVG logos and template previews, read
references/brand-guide.html.
- Determine the audience and pick the register: English consultant (Navy + technical) or Arabic heritage (Green + formal).
- Apply the honesty rules — never inflate credentials, never imply international IP, always include OEA registration placeholder.
- Verify before finalising: Does this read like a senior consulting engineer's document? Would it survive a deposition? Is the Arabic genuinely co-equal to the English?
