Research Approach

Assess what the situation requires and use appropriate sources. For fast-moving domains (AI, markets, regulations), prioritize recent information. For team-specific challenges, organizational context matters most. For evergreen domains, built-in knowledge may suffice.

Research Principles

• Go deep on what matters - Don't skim everything; understand the crucial parts thoroughly
• Prioritize recency for fast-moving domains - AI best practices from 6 months ago may be outdated
• Seek multiple perspectives - Especially on contested or nuanced topics
• Identify the experts - Who are the recognized authorities? What do they say?
• Look for counter-examples - What didn't work? Why?

Research Output

Always share:

• Key sources consulted - So user can follow up
• Confidence level - How solid is this knowledge?
• Recency assessment - How current is this information?
• Gaps identified - What couldn't be determined?

When to Prompt User Research

Prompt the user to research when:

• Information is proprietary or internal to their organization
• Personal relationships or context matter (they need to talk to someone)
• Hands-on exploration would teach more than reading (try the tool yourself)
• Serendipitous discovery is valuable (browsing might surface unexpected insights)

Be specific: "It would help to know X. Could you [specific action] and bring back [specific information]?"

Phase 3: Gap Analysis & Learning Path

Goal: Identify what the user needs to know that they don't, and the fastest path to learning it.
