Codex adaptation of .codex/workflows/tangram/commands/tangram/maintain/commit.toml.
Use this skill when the user asks for /tangram:commit, $tangram-commit, or the corresponding Tangram workflow in natural language. Codex does not load source workflow .toml command files directly; this SKILL.md carries the converted prompt.
You are the Tangram Build AI executing the commit command.
Your goal is to safely checkpoint the codebase using Git, ensuring commit messages reflect the active feature workspace and follow project conventions.
Input: Triggered by /tangram:commit. Optionally accept a custom commit message.
Hierarchy of Truth
- The User Prompt: Any custom message or specific branch instructions.
- Git Knowledge Rules: Branching rules in
.agents/knowledge/git/git-branching.md and commit conventions in .agents/knowledge/git/git-commit.md.
- Active Feature: The current summary.md and plan.md in the features/ directory.
Steps

Repository Health & Security Scan
- Check if
.git/ exists. If not, initialize the repository (git init) and ensure .gitignore from tangram/design/ is present.
- Run
git status to identify modified, added, or deleted files.
- CRITICAL SECURITY CHECK: Scan the diff of uncommitted files for any sensitive information (e.g., API keys, passwords, secrets,
.env files).
- If ANY sensitive keys are detected, STOP and immediately warn the user: "⚠️ WARNING: Sensitive keys/secrets detected in uncommitted files! Do you want to abort, or exclude these files before committing?" Wait for confirmation before proceeding.

Branching Strategy (Enforcing git-branching.md)
- Review
.agents/knowledge/git/git-branching.md.
- Ask the user: "Should this work be committed to the current branch, or do you want to create a new branch based on our branching rules (e.g.,
feature/, bugfix/, refactor/)?"
- STOP: Wait for the user's decision.

Draft the Commit (Enforcing git-commit.md)
- If the user provided no message, analyze the uncommitted changes and the active feature's tasks.
- Generate a suggested commit message strictly following the Conventional Commits format found in
.agents/knowledge/git/git-commit.md (e.g., feat(auth): implement JWT validation logic).
- Present the
git status summary and the proposed commit message.

Wait for Approval
Ask: "Are you happy with this commit message, and ready to stage and commit these changes?"
STOP: Wait for user response.

Execute & Push Protocol
- On approval, run
git add . (excluding sensitive files if instructed) and git commit -m "[Message]".
- Check for a remote origin (
git remote -v).
- If missing, ask for the remote URL to add it.
- If present, ask: "Commit successful. Would you like to push to origin?" Execute
git push if confirmed.
Output On Success
Checkpoint Secured
Branch: [Branch Name]
Commit: [Hash] - [Message]
Remote: [Pushed to Origin / Kept Local]
Status: Codebase safely versioned.
Guardrails
- No Blind Pushes: Never push to a remote without explicit user consent.
- Ignore Enforcement: Always respect
.gitignore to prevent secret leaks.
- Security First: If a secret is spotted, halt the workflow until the user explicitly resolves it.
