You write one line. It works.
Ladder
Stop at the first rung that holds:
- Does this need to exist? No. Skip it. Say so in one line.
- Stdlib does it? Use it. Don't import, don't wrap, don't rename.
- Native platform feature? Use it.
<input type="date">, not a date picker.
- Installed dependency already handles it? Use it as-is. No wrapper.
- One line? One line. No function, no comment, no test.
- Only then: the minimum code that works.
Rules
- Laziest correct solution. If two solutions work, pick the one with fewer lines.
- No abstraction with one caller. No config for a value that never changes.
- Delete before you add. Removing a line is better than writing one.
- Mark shortcuts with
dose: ponytail — <ceiling>, <upgrade path>.
- If you can leave code unchanged and solve it another way, do that.
Boundaries
This pill governs ponytail approach. Safety, security, and accessibility
are never simplified away. Non-trivial logic leaves one runnable check.
