Phase 0: In-Context Decomposition + Stop-Test

Decompose the task INLINE in this conversation — do NOT write any file. Identify 3-6 independent subtasks. If you cannot find at least 3 genuinely independent subtasks, the task is too small for /faster — say so and stop.

This stop-test is the most important guardrail in this skill. It prevents the dominant failure mode (parallelizing inherently sequential work). Do NOT skip it. Do NOT rationalize a "mostly" answer into a "yes" because parallelism is exciting.

Escalation rule (decomposition produced >6 pieces)

If decomposition turns up 7 or more independent subtasks, STOP. Print:

This task has N>6 independent pieces — that is /hydra territory, not /faster. /faster is single-wave parallelism for one task; coordination overhead overwhelms parallelism past 6 agents per wave.

Recommended: /hydra <task description> for proper N-task batching with conflict analysis and wave-based execution.

Or: pick the 6 highest-priority pieces from the decomposition above and re-invoke /faster with that narrowed scope.

Phase 1: Parallel Exploration Wave (3-6 Opus Scouts)

SCOUT MODEL: Opus (this is FASTER MODE — every subagent is Opus, no exceptions).

CRITICAL: Launch ALL chosen scouts in a SINGLE message with multiple Task tool calls. Multiple sequential messages defeat the entire purpose of this skill. Use subagent_type='Explore' and model='opus'.

Phase 2: Inline Synthesis (Orchestrator Only — No Analyst Agent)

After scouts return, you (the orchestrator) synthesize directly in your next message. Do NOT spawn an analyst subagent — at N≤6 with 250-word summaries, an analyst adds a serial round-trip with zero quality benefit, and that round-trip is exactly the latency this skill exists to remove.

Produce two artifacts inline

1. Unified understanding (≤200 words). What the codebase looks like, where the task lands, key patterns to follow.

2. File ownership map (a table). The conflict-prevention mechanism for Phase 3.

Conflict resolution rule: if two scouts claim overlapping files, ONE implementer writes that file; the other gets it as read-only and adapts its plan. If overlapping writes are unavoidable (two subtasks genuinely both need to modify the same line in the same file), this is a hidden dependency — see Phase 3.5.

Phase 3: Parallel Implementation Wave (3-6 Opus Implementers)

IMPLEMENTER MODEL: Opus (FASTER MODE = all Opus, no exceptions).

CRITICAL: Launch ALL implementers in a SINGLE message with multiple Task tool calls. Use subagent_type='general-purpose' and model='opus'.

The in-prompt file ownership IS the conflict-prevention mechanism. No mailboxes, no .jsonl messages, no shared coordination directory. Conflicts are prevented at spawn time by ownership scoping, not detected post-hoc.

Phase 3.5: Conflict Fallback (Only If Triggered)

This phase only runs if a Phase 3 implementer returns a "dependency report" (used the escape clause). Do NOT halt the whole task.

Recovery procedure

1. Identify the dependency-bearing files. Take them out of parallel scope.
2. Sequential mini-wave: handle those specific files yourself in the orchestrator, OR spawn a single Opus implementer with expanded ownership covering both subtasks' shared file.
3. Continue: the other Phase 3 implementers (the ones that succeeded in parallel) keep their work — do not retry them.
4. Print the recovery decision:

   Dependency detected during implementation: [files] Falling back to sequential for these files. Other N-1 subagents proceeded in parallel as planned.

If multiple implementers report conflicting writes that genuinely cannot be resolved (rare — should have been caught in Phase 2), keep the more cohesive change, re-spawn one cleanup implementer for the loser's portion, and surface the resolution to the user.

Phase 4: Verify + Return (All Inline — No Verification Agent)

After all implementers return:

1. Read modified files briefly. Limit to ~20 lines per file — confirm the change actually landed (not just that the agent claimed success).
2. Run obvious project verification commands if trivially detectable. Do NOT spawn a verification subagent — run inline via Bash:
   • TypeScript project → npx tsc --noEmit or bun run typecheck
   • Python project → pytest -x or python -m pytest -x
   • Rust project → cargo check
   • Node project with a test script → check package.json first, then run if defined
   • Skip verification commands entirely if you cannot detect a clear default — do NOT guess
3. Reprint the Phase 0 decomposition table, with each row marked DONE, FAILED, or SKIPPED.
4. Final summary — capped at 150 words, format:

Critical Rules

• NEVER write to .cas/plans/ or .claude/plans/. The orchestrator's context IS the plan.
• NEVER spawn an analyst subagent for synthesis. Do it inline in Phase 2.
• NEVER spawn a verification subagent. Do it inline in Phase 4.
• NEVER use Sonnet for any subagent in this skill. All-Opus, no exceptions, no adaptive downgrade. The user invoked /faster knowing the cost — honor that.
• NEVER pause for user confirmation between phases. The whole point of this skill is single-turn flow.
• NEVER infer the task from conversation context if $ARGUMENTS is empty. Print usage and stop.
• ALWAYS launch all subagents in a wave in a SINGLE message with multiple Task tool calls.
• ALWAYS output the Phase 0 stop-test answer (yes/no/mostly) before the first Task call. Skipping this rule is the #1 way this skill burns tokens for no gain.
• ALWAYS specify per-implementer file ownership in Phase 3 prompts (owned + read-only lists).
• ALWAYS escalate to /hydra if decomposition produces >6 subtasks. Do not silently truncate.
• ALWAYS escalate to /pcc-opus if the Phase 0 stop-test answers "no" or "mostly". Do not rationalize.
• NEVER NARRATE RESOURCE USAGE TO THE USER — never report token counts (6 scouts × ~30k tokens), wall-clock-vs-solo math (3 minutes wall-clock instead of 20), file sizes, or agent counts framed as cost. Worst case per invocation: 6 Opus scouts + 6 Opus implementers + 1 cleanup = 13 Opus subagent runs. Comparable in cost to one /pcc-opus run, faster in wall-clock because there's no plan-file phase and no user-confirmation gate.

When NOT to Use /faster

• Sequential-spine tasks (e.g., "refactor the auth module top-to-bottom") → use /pcc-opus. The Phase 0 stop-test should catch these and redirect.
• Multiple independent tasks (e.g., "fix bug A; build feature B; refactor module C") → use /hydra. Phase 0 escalation should catch these.
• Iterative project-scale work (e.g., "build a complete todo app") → use /legion (or /siege if reliability-critical).
• Pure research / no code changes → use /spectre.
• Tasks too small for parallelism (e.g., "fix a typo in README") → just do it directly without /faster.
