Message Formatter (Minto Pyramid)
Reformats any message — announcements, emails, Slack messages, proposals — into a clear BLUF structure.
What it does
Takes a block of text and restructures it into three layers:
- 🥇 The Point — one-sentence conclusion, ask, or announcement
- 🥈 The Why — 2-3 bullet points with key arguments
- 🥉 The Details — optional supporting info (links, numbers, context)
How to use it
Paste your message. The skill extracts the core message and re-outputs it in pyramid structure.
You can also specify a target audience to adjust tone:
team — casual, direct
exec — concise, decision-focused
client — polished, professional
Rules
- Keep it short — drop the Details section if it's not needed
- No fluff transitions ("As previously mentioned", "I wanted to reach out")
- The conclusion must fit in one sentence
- Preserve any links, mentions, numbers — they go in Details
- Target audience adjusts tone but never changes the structure
Example
Input:
Hey team, just wanted to let you know that after reviewing our Q1 metrics and the feedback from the last retro, we've decided to move the standup to 10am starting next Monday. This gives the devs in EU more time to catch up before standup. Also we'll be trying async updates on Wednesdays instead.
Output:
🥇 Starting next Monday, standup moves to 10am. Async updates on Wednesdays.
🥈 Why:
• EU devs get more time before standup
• Wednesdays go async to reduce meeting overhead
🥉 Details:
• Based on Q1 metrics + retro feedback
• Async Wednesdays = write updates in Slack by 10am
