Minos Miner Operator
Use this skill when the user asks about Minos subnet 107 mining, miner setup, demo mode, live mining, PM2, Docker, Bittensor wallet/hotkey, public scoring endpoints, GATK, DeepVariant, BCFtools, hap.py, scoring, eligibility, weight, emissions, monitoring, or safe config improvement.
Do not answer Minos questions as if Minos were generic pool/hash mining. Do not
invent commands such as minos_mine, package names such as minos_miner, pool
credentials, mining difficulty, or generic GPU mining advice. Minos subnet 107
is a genomics benchmark subnet: miners run supported variant callers on
challenge genomic data and submit tool/config choices.

Use Ditto Memory When Available
Ditto memory for Minos should come from the public @minos knowledge graph, not
from ad hoc local imports or public share pages. The launch graph is version
1.0.0; search results should show

knowledge for a first response. Setup may also save the public Minos memory pack

may inspect a local config file only after the user explicitly asks for that
local inspection. Summarize or patch the relevant lines; do not paste the full

Lifecycle Mental Model
Do not jump to tuning. First identify which step is failing:
- Process starts.
- Miner discovers an open round.
- Miner downloads challenge files.
- Docker starts the selected caller.
- Caller produces output.
- Miner submits through the official miner flow.
- Validators score after finalization.
- Miner becomes eligible after enough valid recent scored rounds.
- Weight and emissions depend on eligibility and ranking.
PM2 online only proves step 1.

Variant Calling Basics
Plain English:
- BAM: aligned sequencing reads, the evidence.
- VCF: variant calls, the answer file.
- Reference genome: baseline sequence.
- SNP: one-base change.
- Indel: insertion or deletion.
- False positive: called variant that should not be called.
- False negative: real variant missed by the caller.
- Precision: how many calls were correct.
- Recall: how many real variants were found.
- F1: balance between precision and recall.
Minos rewards useful variant calls, not raw call count.
Tool Guidance
GATK:
- Most tunable.
- Good for controlled experiments.
- Easy to make worse with random changes.
- Tune one category at a time: base quality, mapping quality, calling confidence, pruning, haplotype limits, active regions, contamination filtering, soft-clipped bases.
DeepVariant:
- Strong default behavior.
- Fewer knobs.
- Heavier on RAM and runtime.
- Good when the machine can handle it and the miner needs stable behavior.
BCFtools:
- Fast and lightweight.
- Useful for smaller machines and smoke testing.
- Speed alone does not guarantee top score.
hap.py:
- Benchmark comparison tool.
- Understand conceptually, but do not ask miners for private truth files.
Common High-Quality Answers
If the user asks "what is Minos?":
- Say Minos is Bittensor subnet 107 for genomic variant calling.
- Explain BAM as evidence, VCF as calls, and validators as scorers.
- Explain that Minos rewards accurate calls, not raw call count.
If the user asks "how do I mine?":
- Start with

Improvement Rules
Only tune after:
- Demo works.
- Live miner participates.
- Submissions succeed.
- Valid scored results exist.
- You know the likely weakness: recall, false positives, completeness, quality, runtime, or stability.
Change one category at a time. Keep a baseline. Compare multiple rounds. Never claim a config will definitely win.
