Bundle Size Analysis

Use this skill to answer package-size questions with live measurements where possible. Prefer measured data over generic advice.

Quick Workflow

1. Identify the target:

   • Published npm package: query Bundlephobia.
   • package.json: scan runtime dependencies first; include dev dependencies only when the user asks about toolchain/install footprint.
   • Local package publishing footprint: run npm pack --dry-run --json.
   • Built app/library output: inspect dist, build, lib, esm, or explicit artifact paths.

2. Run the helper from the skill directory:

   python "scripts/bundle_size_analysis.py" pack --repo .

3. Report:

   • Minified and minified+gzip sizes.
   • Dependency count and largest dependency contributors when available.
   • Packaging size separately from browser bundle size.
   • Any failed packages with the API error code/message.
   • Concrete next actions: replace a dependency, narrow imports, mark side-effect-free code correctly, split optional features, trim published files, or add/adjust a size gate.

Choosing Checks

Read references/check-selection.md when the user asks for a broad audit, wants "similar tools too", or mixes bundle size with npm publish/install size.
