Create Blog Entry: What Is This About?
Generates the description frontmatter field and the ## What is this about?
body section for a blog entry, based on a GitHub repository's README and
description.
When to use this skill
Activate when an agent must fill the description and ## What is this about?
parts of a blog entry file that already has its frontmatter skeleton in place.
Trigger contexts:
- Blog entry file exists with empty
description: "" frontmatter
- Blog entry file has
## What is this about? placeholder section
- Input available: README.md content and/or repo description string
Inputs expected
| Input | Source | Required |
|---|
| README.md content | read from target repo | yes |
| Repo description | GitHub API or repo metadata | optional |
| Blog entry file | already created with skeleton | yes |
Output
Two parts written into the blog entry file:
1. description frontmatter field
- Exactly 1 sentence, max 160 characters
- Summarises what the repo does in plain language
- No jargon, no marketing language
- Written in present tense: "Provides...", "Generates...", "A tool that..."
2. ## What is this about? section body
- 3 to 6 sentences
- First sentence: what the repo is and what it does
- Middle sentences: key features, use cases, or motivation
- Last sentence: who benefits from it or how to get started
- Plain language, no bullet points, no headers inside the section
- Do NOT copy-paste from README — rewrite in your own words
- Do NOT include code blocks or commands
Step-by-step instructions
1. Read available inputs
2. Write the description field (1 sentence)
Rules:
- Start with a verb or noun phrase: "A CLI tool...", "Generates...", "Provides..."
- Max 160 characters
- No quotes around it in the frontmatter (the YAML already has quotes)
Example:
description: "A minimal GitHub portfolio powered by gitprofile, deployed via GitHub Pages with a config-only approach."
3. Write the What is this about? section (3-6 sentences)
Rules:
- Plain prose, no lists, no sub-headers
- Start broad (what it is), then narrow (how it works), then close (benefit)
- If README is sparse, use repo name and description to infer purpose
- If repo is a collection (awesome list, skills repo), say so clearly
Example output:
## What is this about?
<!-- generated by aider + aider-skills + skill create-blog-entry-what-is-this-about -->
This repository provides a minimal personal portfolio website powered by the
gitprofile project. Instead of forking the full source, it uses a config-only
approach where a single TypeScript file holds all personal settings. A GitHub
Action fetches the gitprofile source, injects the configuration, builds the
site, and deploys it to GitHub Pages automatically on every push. This makes
updating the portfolio as simple as editing one file.
4. Write both into the blog entry file
The agent edits the existing blog entry file:
- Replace
description: "" with description: "<generated 1 sentence>"
- Replace the empty
## What is this about? section body with the 3-6 sentences
Do NOT change any other part of the file — frontmatter title, pubDate,
heroImage, githubName, or the Links section must remain untouched.
