ADK patterns for gaia
- Root Gaia agent =
LlmAgent built in core/agent.py. Delegation to souls goes
through the root-only delegate_to_soul tool (souls/delegate.py, nested
Runner), not free-form transfer_to_agent.
- Workflow agents:
SequentialAgent (ordered, output → next input),
ParallelAgent (independent tasks at once).
- Tools = plain Python functions with type hints + a docstring; ADK auto-wraps
them. No manual schema. Follow the
new-tool skill.
- Shared data between agents =
Session.state (the "whiteboard"). That is also
gaia's short-term memory; long-term is mem0 via memory/service.py
(Mem0MemoryService, plugged into the Runner).
- Use ADK's public API only — never reach into
_private attributes
(e.g. use tool_context.user_id, not tool_context._invocation_context).
- Delegation works only if each sub-agent's
description is sharp — the parent
routes by reading them. Keep descriptions task-specific.
- Always check
google/adk-samples for the closest existing pattern before
writing new orchestration.

A new capability becomes an AgentSpec → persisted by agents/registry.py.
Look up an existing spec before creating one.
