AI Agents follow this skill to retrieve and interpret user manual instructions from the knowledge base by:
Looking up which manual section covers a specific task or feature
Extracting structured step-by-step instructions with expected outcomes
Troubleshooting unexpected results against documented known issues
Listing all documented features and workflows for discovery
Important Notes
BLOCKING: This skill is read-only — it retrieves and interprets existing manual content. It MUST NOT create, modify, or delete any knowledge base files.
BLOCKING: Every instruction-returning operation MUST include a clarity_score (0.0–1.0). If clarity_score < clarity_threshold (default 0.6, configurable via input), set needs_human_feedback: true with a reason explaining which steps are unclear.
CRITICAL: Always use project-root-relative paths (e.g., x-ipe-docs/knowledge-base/{manual-name}/04-core-features/feature01-stage-toolbox.md) in all output references.
CRITICAL: When multiple manuals exist under x-ipe-docs/knowledge-base/, the caller MUST provide kb_path pointing to a specific manual folder. Do NOT search across all manuals.
About
The Reference User Manual skill is a retrieval tool that reads user manuals previously extracted into the knowledge base by x-ipe-tool-knowledge-extraction-user-manual. It is called by x-ipe-task-based-general-purpose-executor when the executor encounters a step that requires understanding how an application works — e.g., "click the Create button" or "configure the export settings".
Key Concepts:
KB Structure — Each manual lives at x-ipe-docs/knowledge-base/{manual-name}/ and follows a standard layout: 01-overview.md through 08-faq-reference.md, with 04-core-features/ and 05-common-workflows/ containing per-item files
Feature/Workflow Files — Individual files like feature01-{slug}.md or workflow01-{slug}.md containing description, interaction pattern, step-by-step instructions, screenshots, and tips
Interaction Pattern — Categorization of how a feature is operated: FORM, MODAL, CLI_DISPATCH, NAVIGATION, or TOGGLE. Used by the executor to understand what kind of UI interaction to expect
Clarity Score — A 0.0–1.0 assessment of how actionable the retrieved instructions are. A step is considered vague if it lacks an action verb, element name, or expected outcome. Each vague step reduces the score by 0.15
Index Files — _index.md provides a human-readable listing table; .kb-index.json provides machine-readable metadata with tags and descriptions
