Plugin Security Gate
Scans plugin skill files and their scripts for security threats BEFORE installation. Designed for a framework that loads third-party skills as agent instructions — prompt injection in a skill file is as dangerous as code injection in a script.
Threat Model
Five threat categories, ordered by impact:
T1: Prompt Injection in Skill Files
Skills are markdown files loaded as agent instructions. A malicious skill can hijack agent behavior.
Detection patterns in .md files:

T2: Code Execution in Scripts
Plugin scripts (scripts/*.sh, scripts/*.py, scripts/*.js) can execute arbitrary code.

T4: Supply Chain Risks

Workflow
1. Identify Plugin Files
Scan the target directory (plugin root or .claude/skills/plugin--* files):

2. Scan Markdown Files (T1 + T5)
For each .md file:
Prompt Injection (T1):
- Grep for override phrases:

- Grep for safety bypasses:
authorized, consented, safe to, permitted to
- Grep for exfiltration:
send to, upload, POST, environment variable, API.KEY, SECRET
- Check for hidden characters:

Supply Chain (T4):
- Check for unpinned
npm install / pip install without version specifiers
- Check for remote fetches:
curl, wget, fetch() downloading to disk
4. Classify and Report
Each finding gets a verdict:

Severity mapping:
- T1 (Prompt Injection) → FAIL for override/hijack patterns, WARN for excessive permissions
- T2 (Code Execution) → FAIL for obfuscated execution, WARN for legitimate tool usage
- T3 (Persistence) → FAIL always (plugins should never modify shell config or create cron jobs)
- T4 (Supply Chain) → WARN for unpinned deps, FAIL for runtime installation
- T5 (File System) → FAIL for traversal, WARN for absolute paths
Context-aware exceptions:
scripts/ files that are explicitly listed in the skill's allowed-tools or scripts frontmatter section are expected to use Bash — don't flag basic shell usage
- Network requests that fetch documentation or schema files (not executables) are WARN, not FAIL
eval() in a test file is WARN, not FAIL
5. Output
When run as part of /just-ship-audit, output findings in the standard JSON format:
