Tool Design Principles

• One thing well: each tool does one thing with a clear name
• Explicit descriptions: the LLM reads them — be specific about when to use the tool
• Structured return types: return dicts/JSON, never raw text
• Validate inputs: don't trust LLM-generated inputs blindly
• Idempotent where possible: tools may be called multiple times
